Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?
£97 for a G3 map, £76 for an Opel map.
Wonder what the difference is........waiting for torrents to finish & going to try discs from Opel.

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?
Been a while since I posted, but here we go on this. Right I got the G3 unit from 'mike@mjstephens', at first coudn't get it to see the gps ariel, but found plug not seated in right, so now works. Noted that G3 unit uses 9 satellites to position as opposed to the 6 from the G2 system. I had an aftermarket gps reciever, as didn't want to cut the roof to fit the original. Now the G3 unit came with a 2008 disc, but unfortunately its for Italy with the MRE (back up disc). I noticed from some digging on the european forums that it is possible to use the GM/Opal discs for the G3 system as long as thier the NCDC NCDR versions and not the CD70 versions. I'm guessing as so few UK 166 were sold with G3 satnav, why no downloads available on 'emule' and the like for the UK. If some very kind person has a UK G3 disk they can lend for 'testing' or a back up version, I would be very happy!

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?
Hiya again folks, well 'mike@mjstephens' had an up to date Navteq UK disc to lend so I could test the system. Well it all works, the only problem I have is the language is always in Italian. I've tried changing it serveral times to other languages, where the ics shows the choosen language but the sat nav still speaks in italian! Only thing I can think of is maybe need to use an original Alfa G3 disc to update the ics unit? As when I fitted the original G2 system I had an original Alfa G2 disc and it updated the ics unit, took about 20 mins. Anyone with an idea on this?

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?
Success! Well, not with a UK disk but just download and checked a Benelux disk (described as Opel Siemens). Worth the effort as not only are the Vauxhall/Opel disks cheaper from the dealer but I can now buy a complete Vauxhall set of European disks from Navteq for around £200.

You ment that the Opel/Vauxhall Disc worked?

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?
I'm not having much luck with any of these so far. I've tried a few of the Opel/Siemens ones and it just complains about the disc. I also tried one which claimed to be an Alfa 166 disc with Italian maps, but even that won't play, says CD error. Only thing that seems to work for me is the original one that came with the car and the backup copy I made as a test to see if the reader was picky about CDRs for some reason. Probably just bite the bullet and pay Navteq for a pukka one at this rate.
I definately have a G3 unit BTW, and Navteq confirmed they can do current maps for me, based on me telling them which CD I have in there at present as well as the info regarding ICS/Nav version numbers.
Ah well, it was worth a try.

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?
G3 - eject arrow points upwards btw.
I have had no luck with the downloaded OPEL ones, although the disc structure looks similar, so maybe a bit of cutting and chopping of files would work to create a hybrid disc with alfa software & opel map files?
The CD-Rs of 2008 discs definitely work on G3 reader with (unconfirmed as don't know how to without taking it out & can't be arsed to try again) original ICS from 2001.
Carries out a reboot & upgrade of the ICS - just thought, not tried language, but the screen is in english & love to listen to the italian voice anyway, so will just have to learn italian navigation.

don't mention Z4

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?
I tried making a hybrid disc using my original CD for structure but with the map data from a recent Opel Italy disc. Not surprised this failed TBH....
I'll try one with the latest Opel GB data as well.
The failure of the Alfa 166 Italy disc might simply have been down to the particular type of blank I used I suppose. I'll try a few more, but it's getting tedious now!
G3 eject arrow - that's a quick and easy one!
