struggling uphill

Hi guys having my 166 2ltr ts for little over a month and already having full service and cambelt done, the car still seems a little slow for a 2ltr block hovering around 80mph and struggling uphill, am expecting to much or should I have more responsive car on my hands?
struggles from cold to pull away and Erratic ref counter.

Re: struggling uphill

Perhaps another example of a MAF problem? Does it rev smoothly right through the rev range? Search for MAF on the forum and you should find plenty more information. Here are a few links...

Re: struggling uphill

either MAF or lambda or both - especially if the engine management light is prone to coming on every now and then.

What's the fuel consumption like? if it's low, it might also be a perished air intake hose letting air in and confusing the ECU.

Oh, it's also worth spraying some carb cleaner into the throttle body - that made a bti of a difference on mine.

I've had all of these problems on my TS and none of them were expensive / hard to fix.

Re: struggling uphill

there must be summat wrong as from cold it should pull virtually the same. But it is a heavy car for a relatively low torque engine, needs lots of revs to keep it on the boil etc

Re: struggling uphill

That's a good point Cream - and if you're being careful not to rev it from cold it can sometimes feel slow til it has warmed up.

Alfa 166 TS

Re: struggling uphill

Sounds like a problem. My TS is pretty good once you have the revs up, between 4,000 and 6,500 there is plenty of go including uphill. I've got the six speed box and putting my foot down in 6th at 80mph (just under 4,000 revs) is right in the power band so very good acceleration without changing down. It's always struck me as a good trade off against a higher cruiser type top gear - after all its an Alfa!
