This company looks to be Hungarian <linky>. Nothing wrong per se, but Mintex parts are not expensive - I don't think I'd take the chance personally.

Re: 164 front brake pads...

I got genuine Alfa Romeo front pads for my '93 164 recently, from Alfashop, who are in Norwich. They weren't too expensive, and service is very good in my experience.

You can get them from part-co as well for budjet pads

Use Lucas pads in my 164, no problems at all.

Re: 164 front brake pads...

Got to be a bit carefull, if you have a lot of hills, like Derbyshire, into Bakewell, or Teligraph hill in Devon and you have to stop quick you could end up with brake fade, and or lots of embarrasing smoke coming off your front wheels in a que of traffic. If you use the brakes a lot then have to stop quick you might prefere the Alfa Romeo pads, I got shot of my uni part ones, it could have been a bad batch?

Re: 164 front brake pads...

On my 1996 164 V6 24V I purchased Magneti Marelli Brake Pads, purchased them from an Alfa Shop. They are supposedly OEM. I also purchased the Fuel Filter of the same make. They told me that the parts dont differ from the Originals. Is this correct ? I didn't get them from the Agent cos they weren't available and had to order them. The prices were quite close to eachother.

Should I use another brand as I am taking it to the specialist tomorrow for replacement.

Re: 164 front brake pads...

Keithnm,

It seems that many suppliers quote parts as 'Original Equipment Manufacturers' when they are not. However, replacement parts SHOULD be of a certain standard to be sold in the first place.

Magneti Marelli are well known and should be ok. Why do you think that they will not do the job?

The only answer to dubious/bogus parts is to buy genuine Alfa parts, if they are available.

As I said in my original mail, I fitted Lucas (who took over Girling) and I am very pleased with then.

I noticed someone selling Brembo pads on the net yesterday. They wanted £100.99 for a set of 147 front pads!! (potn.co.uk)
