Alfa166 V6 ECU - WARNING!

I've just looked inside my 166's ECU and I've find a damaged diode near the input buffer capacitor!!!
Type: LVP88
Maybe it is an unidirectional supressor diode (overvoltage and reverese polarity protection with input fuse), or just an antiparallel diode for reverse polarity protection (with input fuse).

I don't have an idea what was the reason of the damage...
(I think this diode is too small for there...Case of overvoltage/reverse polarity the fuse is that, what must be blowup...)

Hmm...

I've changed it to an 15V supressor diode.
(P6SMBJ13A - open at around 15V)

No...We've just maked a chiptuning, that was the reason of disassembly the ECU.

But...if in case of overvoltage spike, or undervoltage spike (similar than reverse polarity) may cause the damage of ECU, if this diode is not working properly.

And these spikes are so frequently in automotive environments...

This diode is cheap...but the whole ECU is.... huhh...

What were the physical performance symptoms? Were you able to ID it, or was it too badly scorched? Guess you are into electronics, wish I was able to comprehend them more easily.:

There was no symptoms...
Just ECU becamed unprotected (for reverse accumulator polarity etc..) - that was the reason why I wrote to the forum a little warning for the owners. Just a warning...don't panic.
If you've got freetime check the ECU's inside...

Re: Alfa166 V6 ECU - WARNING!

I knew somewhere there had to be other people working on the inside of the ECU's! Maybe somebody can help with circuit diagrams. I have many of the drive by wire models that "loose" their "accelator cables". ECU's are scares and expensive - if we can find the components/tracks that cause problems we can save a lot of 156/166/gtv's. Any help/ideas?
