Bulb out on dash

Been out tonight for a spin to the local Alfa meet at the cornmill pub at Brighouse.
Met some decent chaps and discussed some motoring issues. Bloody cold though, I'll take a coat next time.
Anyway on the way home I noticed the dash not illuminating properly.
I think the bulb behind fuel gauge has gone.
Is this a nightmare of a job to do?
I think I know what the answer is gonna be!!

Re: Bulb out on dash

you sure the dimmer switch on the dash isn't turned to low? it's on the right hand side of the steering wheel i think, if not someone else may be able to help

Re: Bulb out on dash

It's one of those jobs that looks quite easy on paper!!

First you have to remove the top half of the casing on the steering column. This is easy, I did this when looking at my indicator stalk.

Then you undo the 2 small screws you see on the top of the instrument panel. Then it is a case of finding a thin flat tool to gently lever the panel out (See pic)

You can then unplug it and bulb replacement is straight forward.

Good luck!

Re: Bulb out on dash

I'm right out of thin flat tools, I'll leave it to the man at the garage.
Job number two after cam belt!

I used an ordinary table knife from the kitchen drawer.

No mickeybee....I was amazed when I opened it up...no speedo cable just 2 muktipin connectors and out she comes...The "normal" bulbs are easy enough to replace. BUT If you have seen a computer motherboard...That is what the speedo head looks like.

Re: Bulb out on dash

I did not read any manuals or such and had no problem - I did not remove the top of the steering column casing or use a flat tool!

I removed the two screws then carefully manouvered down and out - No problem. Tight but doable!

Re: Bulb out on dash

Planning to do this myself, can anyone describe what kind of bulbs one should use? Only from alfa-stealer (overpriced)?

Re: Bulb out on dash

No worries Did the operation yesterday. The switch itself is a piece of cake, took about 30 min. Needed bulbs with plastic fittings on them (1,2w)
