166 Technical Specifications, Key Equipment & Options
As many people ask about specifications and equipment, I thought it would be useful to upload the details. Here is the information for the launch models, as at December 1998, plus November 2000 and the facelift car from March 2004.

Re: 166 Technical Specifications, Key Equipment & Options
Very interesting Tony Rome.
It shows just how much of the equipment was an option and had to be ordred with the new car (quite a lot!)
One very strange thing is that all models - except 2.0 TS - had a rear Sun Blind fitted as standard. It could not have been the most expensive item so why not fit it in the TS ?
Sorry TS owners!

Personally its not an option I would have liked. The 166 looks neater without it.

Re: 166 Technical Specifications, Key Equipment & Options
Very useful if we have some sunshine (instead of rain) this summer?
Also will stop my dear old mum (81) suffering "sun stroke" as she refuses to travel in the front of cars ever since my old dad rear-ended a Ford Corsair while looking at a bird in a mini skirt in the 1960s

Believe me I don't like them. I have seen them and IMHO they take away from the sleekness of the 166 lines. As it happens I also saw a Lusso that didn't have them.

Coal9011 Classic - your dads a legend!
Why are we even debating the rear blind ? i have never used it in the past 5 years must admit i didn't even know it was there for the first year or so! what a waste of time specification for a UK car.....

Re: 166 Technical Specifications, Key Equipment & Options
I was just trying to make the very small point that for such a good executive cruiser as the 166 such a "low cost" item as a rear sun blind was not a standard feature.
The several other models in the 166 range had it fitted as standard, so why not the 2.0 TS? I don't see the Alfa Romeo logic in this?
I previously had a 164 2.0 TS and it had one fitted?
A most important item with the onset of global warming

How exactly does a sun-blind "take away from the sleekness of the 166 lines"? It's on the inside after all.
As somebody who takes the car to the continent each year on holiday, the blind is IMHO very useful for keeping the sun off the rear passengers' heads. Granted not much use in the UK this summer!!
Incidentally, I think the sun-blind was only standard on the 3.0 lusso.

Re: 166 Technical Specifications, Key Equipment & Options
Should we start a thread on the most wasteful piece of original equipment?
I would suggest 2 things:
1. the cigarette lighter (or the rear 12v take your pick)
2. soundproofing around the engine
(I like the rear sunblind - I use it for 3 months of the year even in dear old blighty)

Re: 166 Technical Specifications, Key Equipment & Options
Rear Sun Blind standard on all models (bar 2.0TS) from 1998 to 2000.
from November 2000 on - standard on 3.0 Super AND 3.0 Sportonic only (thanks to excellent info provided by Tony Rome).
Oh my god, I'm becoming an "anorak!"
I "Love" my Rear Sun Blind

Re: 166 Technical Specifications, Key Equipment & Options
Very useful info,
One thing that I don't get though, is why no CD player as standard fit? Sun blind = useless, CD = essential!!!

Re: 166 Technical Specifications, Key Equipment & Options
Interesting stuff - thanks for posting.
Here's a question...does anyone know how to get a definitive list of installed options given the chassis number? I had a printout of this info for a 164 I used to have. Bit pointless in some ways, but always nice to have as much info as possible I think.
