Re: Can some helpful soul take a photo of their key please :)

Mmm. Now we are getting somewhere
Judging by the flat red key design may well take the same flat buttons as the black keys.

Maybe Rich T can take a photo of his key so I can see under the button? Pretty please

Yes ok a key fob is the dangly bit but these new fangled keys are blade and fob in one piece so does that count as a fob? What else do you call it? The body sounds rubbish and just saying the key is confusing

Are we.

My 1 and only key for pomeo has been operating poorly. On opening it up there was black gunge like the rubber deteriorating.Saw replacement button on ebay for 156 .On phoning to enquire they advised that it was not the same button for the 166 and the 166 key couldn't be opened.Picture look the same as my 166 key for pomeo so well worth a gamble. (Pomeo assembled 1999 has key like 156 button on ebay Lacey assembled 2000 regd 2001 and has the 2 keys like jabberjockeys)

Hope this doesn't add to the confusion Chris

Chris,

I have the original style 166 key (single black button) from a '99 Super. I just took some photos, including inside, with my phone camera but they're cr@p! Definition is not good enough, despite claiming to be 2 megapixels! I will try to take some decent ones with my EOS soon and post them for you.

Re: Can some helpful soul take a photo of their key please :)

Same as jabberwocky here as well. My old keys broke last autumn, new ordered aprox a year ago, looking exactly the same. The keys goes to my 166 2,0 V6 TB 2000.

Can the 2 button one having something to do with alarm or not? My previous 2,0 TS had the one button red ones and no alarm. My 2,0 V6 TB have the 2 button ones, and alarm.

Chris, please find attached the photos of the '99 key internals, as promised. The exterior is the same as Brle has already posted (above).

Re: Can some helpful soul take a photo of their key please :)

Gosh tony..Your rubber button is in pristine condition compared to what pomeo's was.

New rubber button arrived this morning.

Fitted perfectly so if any 166 pre 2000 or thereabouts wants a button for their key the 156 one is the same. What a difference using it to open and lock the car now.

Chris...can you help with this...can the 2000 and on 2 keys with the 2 buttons and folding key be progammed to due the job of the pre 2000 keys.

They are much better keys.

I think that the button in the pre 2000 key operates both the central locking and the alarm. If the batteries are removed the key operates the central locking manualy in the lock BUT if the alarm was on prior to this opening the locks sets off the alarm.

Chris is the black rectangular section at the front end of tonys key the bit that does the immobiliser.

Yeah, the folding key with separate buttons would be far better. Let me know if you find it can be made to work...

A pity you never took a picture with the rubber button removed or with the pc board out I'll try to take apicture of the board and switch. Not tried yet to see if the newer keys are backward compatible.
