I know this is an old thread, but just pulled out my pollen filter, looks like it has never been changed. One question, where do you spray the anti-bacterial spray, I think Pomeo or Dougie said in the intake pipes??? cant remember, sorry dumb question where is this? hopefully this will rectify the foul odour when starting the airconditioing.
the types I have seen is where the system is put onto recirculate the air and let the contents of the can go off inside and over a couple of hours the inside gets fumigated.
If there is a spray type I would guess you need to look for the air intake at the bottom of the screen, put on low fan to draw the air in and spray. You may have to remove the pollen filter you have just fitted as I don't think it would be a good idea wet the pollen filter wet.
the bug bomb type for inside the car don't seem to do much to be honest....you probably are better trying to spray it into the filter box if you've got it open cause at least it will be going straight through to the condensor (evaporator?)
Finally ordered 2 pollen filters,1 immediately for Lacey (new fan etc) and 1 for when I get around to doing Pomeo.
I was gonna go to Alfaworkshop BUT when I got there I saw it had gone form around £16 to over £30.
Ordered elsewhere but not as good a deal as ElBarto's 7 Euros.
BUT when I was watering the plant pot just in front of where Lacey parks I saw one of Mad Mikes bugs (spies not flies) lurking on the compost. What a brilliant disguise....lying in wait for new pollen filter coming...Are these little suckers smart or what.
I wet myself never mind the plants when I recalled this thread when the wee beastie moved when it got a quick bath....Not in MY pollen filter you dont.
How often do 166ers change their pollen filters .I think they (you know who) specify annually....I believe the air con drier is annually too...Does anyone do this?
Pomeo

WHAT DID YOU USED RDAVI.
I USED THIS COZ I HAD 3 OF THEM.
USED IT WITH NO POLLEN FILER IN AND THEN FITTED NEW ONE.
I've got a can of the Forte version on its way (ebay £10 ) which is supposed to be better than the stuff found in Halfords. It has to content with mrs purples 147 smelling like 'pith' (always a way round the swear filter) when the aircon is on, so a tough challenge. I wll report back when it gets here.
Yes I also went up from 7 to around 25€ with Tecnocar active carbon filter: click
I change it every year, wit all other filters and engine oil.
"air con drier" what is that ... owh is that a metal cylinder behind the radiator
never change it
Hey ElbartoLong time no hear. How you doin.
You had one too many http in your linky but I sussed it....Yep what a rip off on these pollen filters...Time to eradicate all plants and prevent pollen..New EU directive ahead and time to move to Aus NZ or elswhere I think.
Yep the receicer dryer is the wee thing you refer to.I should have changed mine when the system was empty..Somewhere I read that this too should be changed every year.

Oh dearie me...Tueday and no word form Purple....I hope he is OK.
Purple You OK man.?
Hope he hasn't gone to Alfa heaven beside all those 166's who have gone before.
Well ,on the back of minor success I ordered new filters all round for the Vauxhalls (Heugh Spit) and what did I flipping get.......New stuff all around...Now those people at vauxhall urnie daft ye ken.
It's a pollen filter for an alfa romeo models..brand new and uptodate...wait for it....145,146,155,gtv coupe spider a few old fiats and lancias....now that is clever...and the air filter for this 07 motor is furra the same alfa and fiat bravos etc.
Why buy a new VX one when you can buy and old alfa one.
Pomeo (When the stuff arrived I thought I had pressed the wrong buy button.)
So an ancient Alfa part is the equivalent of a modern Vauxhall part.
update, used both the Toyota spray and the Forte bomb on mrs P's 147, but only spraying into the cabin air intake would be different, less screws to get at and easier to hit the evaporator.
first the Toyota, comes as an aerosol and you have to attach a nozzle with a 15 inch tube on the end, this sprays the contents out in four directions, I took the scuttle cover off the passenger side (UK) and sprayed down the air intake with the fan on mid speed. Two issues, first it can cause a foam, although it did not spray into the cabin it took a while to clear, and second the tube is in danger of catching the fan. Good as the spray gets a direct hit on the evaporator and the car does not have to be stood idling for ages.
Next up the Forte, put the fan on recirculate, mid fan speed, let off in footwell and leave with the engine and aircon running for ten mins, then clear another five. The filters have to come out which is a fiddle, no mention of that on the Toyota. Seems to do the business, the apple fresh smell is noticable outside the car to so my door seals are not as tight as they should be. Still, easy enough, then pop the filters back in (mine were only 6 months old and still like new). The Forte is a once only application, once the button is pressed it locks down and discharges the lot and if it gets botched your £10 is wasted.
Conclusion, Forte ideal for a one off hit for a specific smelly problem and the Toyota great for maintenance ie a good squirt every few months or so to keep on top of things.
Proof will be whether the whiff returns in a few days time, all smells like fresh apples at the moment, but that should go after a few days.
Edited the link, now should be OK.
Currently rebuilding my new old boat: Click so I`m little short on time, but should be fun heading out to sea in september.
