Thanks Zulu. Now posted pics in my gallery if anyone needs a quick temp fix. With hindsight I could probably have done the repair without removing the bumper.Although harder at the time it will make the full repair quiker in the long run.

Re: Car spewing oil front offside.

Boy am I gutted.

Was quite happy with the progress so far and then a phone call this morning to say that both pipes were in.
After spending yesterday puting it all back together I am gutted.
Still it'll give me a chance to hammerite paint the pipes so i'll not need to do them again in 6 years time.

Your 100pc corerct Dougie..
The braided part is under the under tray which I have not taken off yet.The new pipes have the braided section.Well worth the £90 for the 2 pipes. Only problem is 1 is the wrong pipe.New one ordered should arrive this thursday.

At least the car is driveable now.

Re: Car spewing oil front offside.

Pomeo,
Did you finally get the pipes done? How long did the job take? I've got to decide whether to add it to the list of jobs to do or to scrap the car!

Mike sorry for the delay,Just been to tanerife for 2 weeks .The 3.0. was sluggish in starting 2 weeks ago and I thought that the 2 runs would tide it over until I got back.Couldn't run it until I did temp repair and then gave it 2 good 20 mile runs BUT I should have charged the battery. (Hindsight).

On return fromTenerife the 2.5 with the new merc battery fired right away. The 3.0 (with the rustyoilpipes) central locking didnt open door and dash went haywire.Even boost with external booster didn't get her going.Had to use old jump leads and she got going. So now even further back and its MOT is due in May.
Will do a battery charge on her tomorrow but I think the battery is gubbed. But every cloud has a silver lining. When getting the oil pipes at dealer I saw they had replacement battery (an equivalent around £40 all in) so I think thats the way I'll be going.

Re your problem you wouldn't do away with yourself coz you need a hair cut so do the pipes. There are only around 3,000 in the UK so save the planet and keep it going. Will update when I've done them.
As posted on your post re the cat bracket the top mounting needs attention.

How big is your list?

Thanks, I've bitten the bullet and booked it in with my local man. Not sure when the pipes will come in though.

Well Mike,
As it was a nice day here I decided to get pipes done.
Not painting them with hammerite yet as on removing pipes at oil cooler the drivers side bolt holding the pipe sheared. AAARGH.
Next option removed whole oil cooler and extract stud.
Neaside bolt which hold cooler to bracket sheared (DOUBLE AARGH).

Had a look at the back of the pipes where the are connected at the oil filter. Has anyone done this job without removing the alternator?.

Looks as if it may be possible to get pipes off without removing alterator but the way my luck is going I might end up further back.

Mike Aldren When your pipes were done did they hit any problems.

Peterparker 1968...Sorry to hear about your metal in the oil.

Re: Car spewing oil front offside.

well people...from now on ignore me ..why?...here's me giving good advice (I thought) about keeping your car going..

Well the oil pipe saga.

Has anyone ,other than me did the job themselves?
If not what was the cost of getting it done and how long did they take.

It all looked so easy.

Today got beasted in .Took oil filter off and no way can you get the pipes off.So back to book (disc). Usual workshop manual A lot of info on taking off minor items and at the really difficult bits...Just remove bolt and it comes away...Ha Ha.
So had to remove the Alternator...Boy what a job that was. Then got first pipe off no bother. The other one I had to cut pipe and force it off.
HOW DOES ANYONE GET A SPANNER IN THERE?.
IS THERE A SPECIAL TOOL.

wHILE HAVING A SPELL,WISH i NEW A REALLY GOOD ONE, I looked at the suspension,Couldn't get alternator out so left it at the side., and saw a BROKEN SPRING.

Mike and peterparker1969...NOW I KNOW HOW YOU GUYS FEEL.

The oil pipes were so solid except in the area where it failed.
l
Will paint them if I get it assembled tomorrow.

I'm now to scared to look to closely at the rest of the car.

Re: Car spewing oil front offside.

Pomeo,
Just had a call from Steve at the garage. The pipes are rusted solid into the oil cooler - it needs replacing too (about £!40). It is a hige job and he has had to remove the alternator too.
good luck

Re: Car spewing oil front offside.

mike just out a steaming hot bath...Boy do the old bones ache n muscles too.

It went back all too easy except for the top banjo fitting which I thought would have been easy.
After a long struggle to fit it easy I resorted to brute force n bent the pipe slightly. At this it all slipped into place.

I drilled out the busted bolt (2off) in the oil cooler which looked in brilliant condition considering and tapped the holes and fitted new bolts.
I thought that I would need to take the old o ring seals off the old pipes BUT when I took the protective cover off the new pipes the new O ring seals were in place.....Well done Alfa..

All my old pipes were in tip top condition and with the benefot of hindsight I should have cut off the rotten part and taken it to a hydraulic pipe specialist to fabricate a slot in part and saved myself all the grief.

My mate cut an old 7/8 AF ring spanner to about 3 inches in length and it did the awkward banjo. 7/8 AF as I am sure Zulu will advise is as near as damn it to 22MM.(Gosh the old tons CWT st lb n oz and when LSD was pounds shillings n pence.

Well I saved a few bob by doing it myself and I did quite enjoy the challenge...Wonder what the next one will be after the spring.(On re reading this post who the @@@@ mentioned springs....Is it just coincidence mines has gone as well ..Spooky stuf or are they all ageing at the same rate with the same faults.

Mike keep me posted re progress on your oil pipes and any advice steve gives you.

If ,heaven forbid I have to do it again I think I would remove manifold n starter motor to make acess easier.

Dughters Bravo failed MOT on brakepipes. Was going to make ones myself but wife insisted on Fiat ones. 2 are easily available,1 should arrive by wed and wait for it...the worst pipe is one which is ON BACK ORDER DELIVERY DATE UNKNOWN.
