After two months (yes, two months!) off the road my beloved 2.5 166 is back after extensive repairs to damage from a broken cam belt.
The final bill was just over £2,000 after all 24 valves had to be replaced among all the other work but the good news is that the car is now going much better than it did before the breakdown. The engine feels much smoother and more powerful - perhaps not surprising when it's had what just about amounts to a complete rebuild. Also on a 60 mile round trip today the computer was showing 27mpg which is better than before.
The cambelt had been booked in to be replaced a month before it broke but despite the bill I'm just happy to have the car back.

The delays were due to the difficulty in getting valve guides but all's well that ends well!
