Right level for headlamps on 166?

I took a good look at my head lights(normal 166) and found one of the motors had popped off. Did a fair bit of fiddling and now both are set level to each other and move when I adjust the dial in the car.

However, they seem a little low - how do I know they are pointing to the right height? Is there a certain distance from a wall and is there a height of the light beam should be at?

Cheers

Convinced mine are too low as well they're plenty bright enough but the range is terrible

Assuming talking about Xenon lights? if so see other threads on this but simply - you need to ensure that the ball on the end of the motor servo is well and truly engaged in matching "socket" within the light unit.

Here's a picture from my CD. You don't need to do the angled lines on the wall but it gives a better result if you do.

Basically find a level road with a nice wall perpindicular to it. (This is the hardest bit of the job, I find).

Park the car very close to the wall and at 90° to it. With headlamps on mark the position where the beam hits the wall - i.e. the centre of the beam and the horizontal and angled lines. Run the car straight back about 10m without touching the steering.

At the 10m distance, the horizontal lines from the headlamp beam should be 110mm below the horizontal lines marked when you parked near the wall.

PS I've just fitted some Philips Vision Plus +50% bulbs from Powerbulbs .co.ukto the dipped beams and they're great. Beam cut off is not so sharp and the spread seems a bit wider better than Osram (IMO).

PPS - remember the picture is for LH drive you need to reverse the angles from the diagram.

Re: Right level for headlamps on 166?

Bought on e-bay. It was one of the more expensive ones and included a parts DVD for £11.99+£1.65 P+P. Seems quite good but can't print pages/pictures (maybe it's not meant to?) - I have to do a screen print then paste into Word. A bit strange because there is a working print function in the wiring diagram section!
Parts DVD is not very good.
It looks like this one currently on ebay....ALFA ROMEO 166 DEALER SERVICE & WORKSHOP MANUAL ON CD (#330058476034).
