Re: '04 166 3.2 - ebay

Guess what guys....I was browsing ebay last night and saw a 166 2004 3.2 lusso.6k you had to email a hotmail account
listing was 150084732662
Looked carefully .The chap had a 100 percent rating.Thought something strange.
I checked and he was selling 4 cars the 166 a crossfire a merc and another all at 6k each had to e mail him.
On reading the description of the 166 I had dejavue like another member Yes it was familiar Yes it was 166 newbies car or was it He has not been on to update re his progress.
I checked the valuation at a site and the car booked 5 to 7 K.

Dougie166...You are lucky you didn't buy it as that is some deprectation in a couple of months..

Dodgy add has been removed. What is happening?

I was watching an item.Probably unethically I messaged the seller and said if you get no bids will you do a deal for cash.

Watched item ..no bids to last minute.then bought at lowest price..purchaser appeared genuine. The next day Item back for sale again same advert but this time a hidden reserve.
Can anyone enlighten me as I thought if it was bought it was gone.

I am quite happy that I did not buy BUT I would not believe a valuation website - These cars are not run of the mill and pretty rare, parkers etc. are not reliable at all. I think all of us would be VERY upset at the trade in price a dealer would offer us

Not sure about these Ebay ads - Obviously scammers hijacking ID's and hoping to get a deposit sent to them and then dissapear and try again. Ebay usually shut them down as soon as notified.

Re: '04 166 3.2 - ebay

yeah, they are easily spotted due to the fact you have to email the person.....they've used that 166 a few times for some reason - maybe scammers have taste

Re: '04 166 3.2 - ebay

Without a doubt about taste. No wonder he said email his hotmail acc as his ebay messages were full...I wonder if the accountb holder got any messages.

Re the add I was watching I looked at what the Buyer of the item's feedback was.
It was velly interesting as famous chinese detective would say.

He bought a car from an indian sounding name. The seller said it was his wifes car....unfortunately the full details were obliterated.

A month later the guy/gal sold (very similar car) Same decription re mot and RFL as the one he had bought then a big porkie if it was indeed the same cars....He was selling it for """HIS BROTHER"""" who had had the car for 3 years?....I wonder about the V5 Log book or had it never been updated.

Definitely stranger than fiction. Glad I had no dealings with these people.

Re: '04 166 3.2 - ebay

I remember watching a fully loaded 2001 3.0V6 once on ebay. It had all the options - iridescant paint, red leather, CD, nav (upgraded to G3 with latest disc), phone, 17" alloys, etc. Saw it get won for a cheap price, then it re-appeared about a week later again at a similar price from the same trader, then sell again, then re-appear again. I remember at the time thinking it was a bit fishy. Ebay is a bit like that - most of the time you're perfectly fine but there are a few unscrupulous people on there, just like in any aspect of life. Shame really as it would have been a great buy. You don't often see ones come up that have ALL the options on them. That red leather, I used to think was tacky, but I had a 156 once for a few days when my old 166TS went in for warranty and it really grew on me. Plus I've heard it's a much higher grade of leather as well, or maybe that's PR BS :-)

Re: '04 166 3.2 - ebay

I've always liked the cream/tan leather myself - present car has the cream. Was one of the main reasons I bought it, as apart from wear on the centre console armrest (which is easily fixed) the seats were mint! Mind you, the wheels and suspension were shagged, but like a mad fool I handed the cash over!

Re: '04 166 3.2 - ebay

I almost had a deal on that 2001 166 Super Lusso last September - The dealer that was selling it on Ebay beat me to it!

The previous owner (he is on this forum runs a 156 SW JTD now) told me that the dealer paid £4k for it (and denied he was a dealer!!). I don't think the dealer was pulling any scam other than trying to say he was selling it without a reserve, when he obviously wanted £5.5 to £6k for it (He had an Autotrader advert as well) - He would let the auction run and then obviously bid himself (under another name) to in effect form an artificial reserve. I gave up checking - Unsure if it did actually sell on Ebay!!

It has to be Italian! Fiat, Lancia & Alfa all my days.

My Alfas - 164 3.0 12v - 156 1.8 SP1 - 164 3.0 24v - 156 SW 1.8 SP3 - 166 Super - 166 3.2 Ti - Brera SV JTDM

Re: '04 166 3.2 - ebay

Hello all again,

just got an email about the new posts to this thread and read with surprise all of the ebay shennanigans - guess thats why there's no substitue for atually going and seeing anything you are going to spend some serious money on on ebay....

Anyhow - have the V5 now and a service etc from Black and White (who were really good - AND had exactly the model of Alfasud green cloverleaf in Red that I had last time I had an Alfa in ....92?- as well as some of those amazing flying cheese wedges). Thanks to all ojn the site for the valuable advice and insights

Still not done many miles in the Alfa but it really is a lovely place to spend time!

Still no piccies in front of Asda but annoyingly my H2 Sony camera is still at the menders and looks like being there while the whole family goes on holiday to Egypt

Re: '04 166 3.2 - ebay

If your looking for a highly rated independent in Hampshire try Ken Bell of Alfanatic in Fleet. Not the cheapest at £48/hr (+VAT) but still 1/2 price of Alan Gibson...and actually knows what he's doing too!
