Help 166 2.5 v6 LAMBDA Sensor

I really need some info please.......

I have come back from my alfa garage with some conflicting info, they tell me that my 166 needs new lambda sensors, and according to them it is VERY EXP'ENSIVE to change. One of the maintenece guys said that i would do better to buy them on the net and them get them installed. Well according to a friend of mine the lambda sensor is not at all expensive, but then again he does not seem to know how much or where to get hold of them.

My Question is;

what are the symtombs of a lambda sensor failure

Where can i purchase some from via OEM or NET

If anyone has experienced this before how much are
talking about to replace

Finally how many sensors does my 166 have 2 or 1?

Please help!

Regards
Ivo

Re: 166 2.5 v6 LAMBDA Sensor

Depends if you have 1 or 3 lambda sensors!
Older engines have one which is in the catalyst section and is a doddle to do but you do need a sensor socket (cut out in side for wire) to do it but they are cheap £10 or less.
You can pick up lambda sensor for about £70 on net.
3 sensors on newer engines are a bugger to get to cos they are on exhaust manifold.
First of all TEST each sensor which is free! and relatively easy.
Do a search on this forum for all of the above.

Re: 166 2.5 v6 LAMBDA Sensor

Thanks for the reply,
my Alfa is a 2002 model and as far as i know it has the three sensors lay out. the problem with this as you pointed out, are there location! The guys at the Alfa say that it is very time consuming?!? Do you have any idea as to how long we might be talking about. I would also like to ask u if you know where i can get hold of some of these sensors on the net.

Thanks

Kovi

Re: 166 2.5 v6 LAMBDA Sensor

For the parts do a search on this forum. The source for sensors is on here but I can't b bothered to do it for you at moment...
Time for 3 sensors - no idea. someone else may know.
For the one sensor in catalyst about 30 mins if you don't know what you are doing.
10 mins if you do
(2 hours for a dealer..... )
