depends on how old the car is - i think pre 2001 you need alfadiag or similar as the cars aren't fully OBDB2 compliant...

Technically there are no OBD2 compliant Alfas.
OBD2 is an American std for all cars sold in the USA.
The last Alfa sold in the USA was the 164 and I am sure that isn't covered.

EOBD (similar to OBD2) was introduced for all Petrol Alfas from the 2001 model year (so late 2000).

Don't know when built, how do I tell?

but it is listed in manual as eobd, so that tells me (I think) that its late enough to use this generic tool?
