Winter Motoring

I thought I would share this mod.
In winter I find that no matter how much anti-freeze you put in your screenwash (within reason) the water always freezes at the nozzle exit.
One solution is to have heated sceenwash nozzles. Of course these are not available for the 166.

I have fitted the heated jets from the Alfa 147 winterpack. These are shockingly cheap for an Alfa bit and they fit with a simple mod to the existing mounting. In my case I wired them up to the heated windscreen connection so that they come on when when the screen demist button is pressed.

Re: Winter Motoring

you've got a heated windscreen as well?? Didn't know the 166's came with them....

What's the part number for the 147 jets?

Re: Winter Motoring

I'm not sure if the heated screen was standard or optional but don't get too excited as the heating elements are concentrated around the wiper park position only. There are no elements in the viewing area.

I only found out about mine when I took off the plastic panel over the wiper linkange/ heater intake and found the wires had corroded so didn't actually connect with the elements. The wire connection is at the bottom RH corner of the screen. The connecting plug is probably there even if the heated screen is not fitted. It is very convenient to connect the heated nozzles here. If you want control separate from the heated rear screen you'd have to run wires from a switch through the bulkheads.....

The part number of the 147 heated jet is 46765851 - it's actually called a 'sprinkle' (cost £5 + VAT each).

PS if you're checking the voltage supply here make sure the engine is above 1000 RPM 'cos the system cuts the supply below this (at least that's what my CD says). The supply is also on a timer, 60 minutes according to my CD.

I can e-mail you some pictures if you're interested (they'e too big to post on the site).
