164 steering wheel

Does anyone know if a facelift steering wheel would fit a '91. model?
Thanks,
Charlee

Re: 164 steering wheel

They all have the same boss so it should not be a problem. I presume the one you want to fit is a non airbag wheel right?

Re: 164 steering wheel

I don't actually know yet if it's a non-airbag one. I guess there shouldn't be a problem if it has an airbag? If it's the same boss, it should work.
I really like the airbag steering wheel, looks

Clueless here, so excuse the dumb question. But wouldn't swapping the airbag wheel for a non-airbag one cause the warning light to stay on?

Re: 164 steering wheel

you can spoof the airbag ecu with an appropriate resister...but i think charlee is wanting to put an airbag wheel into a non-airbag car so no problem there

Re: 164 steering wheel

Season's greetings to all of you out there in Alfaland.

Now maybe someone can guide me in the right direction before I potentially break my new toy. Loving my new 164 3.0 auto - especially the hooligan button that holds it round 4000 revs! A few jobs need sorting, which I am spending this time off work doing.

The most irritating is a loose something or other that rattles inside the steering wheel every time I turn it. Either a loose screw or piece of plastic. How does the steering wheel cover come off? It is a 97 airbag model. I have looked at it and there are two holes on the back of it, but sticking a screwdriver into them doesn't seem to find a screw head. So I am wondering if the cover just pulls off? I wouldn't want to break it, so thought I would check with you good folk first, as someone must have done this before?

Thanks in advance to anyone who posts.

Not much help I'm afraid, but I thought I'd mention I've had this along with the airbag warning light on on my TSpark ever since I bought it. It doesn't really bother me, so I've just ignored it. I'm not hugely tempted to fiddle with a steering wheel that has an airbag in it!

Re: 164 steering wheel

Thanks Badge. I agree, I am not champing at the bit with the prospect of knocking myself out with an exploding pillow, but as I just plan on looking for the offending loose item and then clipping/screwing the cover back on, I should get away safely. Then again, I am the eternal optimist and put my trust in the Alfa gods not to spoil my fun and give me loose teeth to worry about as well!

So nobody has fiddled with one of the airbag steering wheels then?

I dont think the Air Bag wheels fit! I needed one and an alfa breaker said it didnt! Plus the 91 wheels are retro and should be kept!!!

IIRC, the airbag is held on by two Allen key bolts - so a screwdriver wouldn't be much use. If you're worried about setting off the airbag - pretty unlikely, in reality - disconnect the battery before doing anything - making sure you know the radio codes, etc, before doing so

Re: 164 steering wheel

Thanks RGWM,

I don't actually want to remove the wheel or touch the airbag - just want to gain access to the inside and remove the loose piece of whatever that is rolling around. Simply want to know how the cover comes off the front. If I unscrew the allen bolts, will the airbag then be loose inside?

Re: 164 steering wheel

don't think so - that will just allow you to take the cover off.....
