Re: How accurate is the ICS on fuel.

Yeah I'm rather pleased that my average consumption since I got the car is 13.6l/100km.

It started off at something hideous until we got used to one another though.

Dougie 215 45 zr 17's on 8 x 17 Fox R1's.

according to the guide book it's a permissible combination.

But when the cheapo tyres are done I'll see what I can get then.

As soon as my fuel light comes on, I never travel more than 50 miles.

That's true OA ..I forgaor about that..the orange light comes on less than a qurter a tank...But when ICS goes --- then I get roughly 30 miles.Did this when I got her 3 years ago.Now keep above a quarter a tank.

Re: How accurate is the ICS on fuel.

I usually get about 0,60-0,70 litres/10 km measuring at the pump, but the ICS reads some 5-10% too optimistic.

Can we please ban diesel owners from this discussion?

Seems Ok to me, should not cause any real problem with ICS or speedo. By my calculations -

205/55/16 = Rolling radius of 315.75mm
225/45/17 = Rolling radius of 317.25mm

Your 215/45/17 = Rolling radius of 312.75mm, therefore I would say totally acceptable considering you can +/- by 6mm depending on new or worn tyres anyway.

Re: How accurate is the ICS on fuel.

i once ran on 0 by ics or -- --. So i figured i got 15km left. I parked it on a hill with nose upwards and i couldnt get it started again. Ics is quite accurat though most times, better then fuel gauge. They tell me different things most times, so i relay on ics. but i newer went to 0 after that mishap...

Yep! Happened me also
Was stranded at side of the road after throwing a gallon in and nothing happening and frantically posting using my Blackberry
http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...ont-start.html (HELP!!! Stranded!! Car cranks but wont start)

Decided I would see if another gallon would help and away she went!

BTW, my ICS was showing 32 miles when it ran out!

Re: How accurate is the ICS on fuel.

The range function is pretty much useless to be honest....i've seen it go from saying 40 miles left so suddenly say --! Also, it's wildly optomistic when you fill the car - sometimes says you'll get 600 odd miels from the tank....i wish

I much prefer relying on the gauge...

I've found that both on my current and previous 166 the range indicator is inaccurate if you've just used the car for a short journey or just after turning the ignition on (eg when you've just filled up).

But it seems very reliable to me if you've been doing a reasonably long run.

Mine regularly does 600+ miles / tank

And I find the range function to be not to bad, yes it may drop suddenly from a few miles left to --- toward the botom of the tank, but that must be expected, it is not an absolute system, only guestimated from your prevous average consumption has been and and what is left in the tank!
