Re: 164 Dashboard is alight

I second the earth fault. My old 12v refused to start one day and the dash lights would stay on even after removing the key from the ignition!!! Crazy stuff I temporarily solved by attaching a jump lead from the engine to the chassis. Not ideal but it got me to my mechanic! It was a bad earth strap located near the expansion tank that was giving all the grief.

Re: 164 Dashboard is alight

I have the same problem on my '92 TS.

I have found that it is most likely a problem with the test circuitry. I've had the instrument cluster out looking for a bad solder joint, and found the previous owner had been trying to sort it out himself, to the point of removing ALL the bulbs and holders from the back of the panel!

(21 of them, at a cost of £2.65 each at Halfords!!!)

So my next move will be to take it to someone who may be able to fix it, HOWEVER I have just had the clutch piston fail on me, so the light show will have to wait...

I am now a member of the "Alfa Romeo just-finished-my-journey-on-the-back-of-a-breakdown-vehicle" club...

If you get it sorted, let us know the outcome, please!

Nostalgia used to be better than this...

Re: 164 Dashboard is alight

ok as mentioned in another thread i've got some of the workshop manual.

this manual is for the 3.0 where as my cars the series one twin spark. on reading the manual every warning light seems to go through highlighted part N22

so is the part interchangable with the v6's. that is the question?
