Hmmm Petrol Smell!!!!

Hi Guys

On my 164 24v Cloverleaf I had just had the fuel lines changed as it was stinking of petrol inside, when I picked it up it smelt like clean air!

A week later I can slightly smell it again, but not as strong, It smells worse when I first start it up, then goes.

Anyone experienced this before? Any ideas what it could be?

Re: Petrol Smell!!!!

this is very common, number one on my hitlist would be those hoses or more specifically the clamps used to seal them, did they use proper EFI hose clamps or jubilee type clips? retighten them and see how you get on. Also check your air filter is not all clogged up.

Re: Petrol Smell!!!!

Thank you for the advice

I'll get them to check it out for me and I'll ask them about the air filter too.

Also, I was thinking of changing the alloy wheels on my car maybe to freshen it up a little. Would the Ti alloys from the 147 & 156 or the multispoke alloys from the GT fit on the 164?

Re: Petrol Smell!!!!

..the 147 and 156 have the same 5x98 bolt pattern, but i think the offset might be a little tight on some of the wheels..?

for a 164 like yours you need something like 17x7.5 with an et30, or 17x7 et35 would work also. you may need spacers on the rear with narrower offsets.. i think the 17x7 wheels on my tspark are et38, which just about fit.

also watch the centre bore.. think it's 58.1 which should be the same as the 147/156 wheels..

if you can find a set of zender milanos like mike's they look fantastic on a 164.. outherwise sienas look great too, and you can still buy them new..

I kept experiencing this problem on my first two 164's and finally solved it by using AO fuel lines. My mechanic says that nothing else will do! He was right!
