Air Con not working:(

Hi people,

During the lovely weather my cars air con has been fine keeping me nice and cold, but a few days ago it stopped. Now I think the actual air con unit is working as I can feel a very small amount of quite cold air coming from the vents, but the fan that blows it hard won't work however much I adjust the air+ and - buttons. Does this mean I need a new fan?? Or any other suggestions? Also, what will it cost to put right? cheers

Re: Air Con not working:(

worth checking fuses/relays first i think....i imagine the fan itself won't be too expensive if it needs replaced but fitting it is probably a 'mare

Re: Air Con not working:(

Can you hear the click as the clutch engages/disengages when the air con is running (engine running, settings on cold)

If so, at least the expensive parts are working

Just the fiddly bits may have failed

Re: Air Con not working:(

I've also had a problem with my aircon. It still seems to be working just fine, but yesterday afternoon my ICS suddenly displayed a message about an aircon failure and the need to contact my car repair shop. Does anyone know the cause of this message? Is this really a problem, because it doesn't seem to have stopped working... Air coming out of it is still cool. I hope someone can help here.

Thanks,
Sander

possibly low pressure warning? Check pressure of system with a gauge and see what it's at....

Sounds like your blower motor has gone. I believe there is a Saab substitute but it doesn't work all that well so you should check out second hand, refurbished or bite the bullet and go for new. You can do the job yourself if you're handy with a spanner but before you go that route, get yourself a multimeter and check the electrics, fuses, etc. and make sure it's not something simple.

Re: Air Con not working:(

This may sound odd but my AC packed up when I had an offside coming together with another car's wing mirror. The outside temp gauge is in the mirror and was reading minus 30 degrees after the bump (the mirror itself wasnt broken). New mirror, new temp gauge and AC working fine again
