Passenger window stuck

Just got my 166 TS. The driver window goes down but not up, until it seems, the engine has a few revs on it, so probably stiff. But the rear drivers side window went down half way and stayed there. Since I don't have a owners manual (I get one after I get back from holidays) I don't know if it is a fuse or not. I have taken off the door trim and all seems in order.

Since neither rear window goes up or down but the fronts do, maybe a separate fuse? Can someone tell me which one controls the rear windows, if they are separately fused to the fronts? I need to sort this out this weekend as am on holiday from Monday and cdon't want the car sitting around with a window open for 2 weeks.

I will graphite the window sliders to give the winder motors a easier time, once I sort this out.

Thx.

Re: Passenger window stuck

Not having the Owners manual has its drawbacks. Of course my wife had clicked the Lock button, and I did not know what it was. Just have to work out why the drivers window goes to the bottom but is reluctant to come back up. At least removing the rear door trim acted as a quick weight loss programme, it is 30C out there! Does sweat stain velour?

Re: Passenger window stuck

Hi dave, first try checking in the boot as I think there is a fuse cluster on the right hand side, while I have the 166 service manual on disc its a bug*er to try and look things up on, there may be a relay in the fuse box in the pass cabin ( top r/h side if it follows the 164 layout) so give them all a wiggle and push in, on the general fuse panel its a 25a in the 164 no 13 ( 2d row up, end fuse r/h side away from door), dont know if thats any help,Iwill try and get some sence out of the disc and post up if I find anything. cheers Mike.

Re: Passenger window stuck

Just a quick check - have you hit the 'disable rear windows' switch on your control panel - at night, the switches in the rear lose their lights when you do this.

Just checking the obvious

Re: Passenger window stuck

IF your drivers window does not go up, try holding up both drivers and passengers switch. This seemed to do the trick on my 166 until the fault was traced to a relay behind the ICS.

Hi
You might be suffering from the common 'faulty window switch' (they are a bit feeble - to say the least - and prone to contacts/switch degrading).

Do you hear a sharp 'click' when you press/raise the switch? If not the switch may be worn.

Try spraying some wd40 over the drivers switch (try to make it go through the lower part) then put your finger under the switch to fully support the switch when you raise window.

This worked on mine (the switch was worn), but the best solution was when I bought and fitted a new switch unit.
