Help Engine Warning Light

Hi Guys,
Had my first experience of alfa reliability issues, I was driving to work this morning when the orange engine warning light came on! I was about half a mile from work so decided to get her there. My manual is at home, do any of you guys know what this lamp indicates? I'm gonna go out in a bit and check the usual oil , water etc. Failing that i'll have to get her into the garage!
Cheers

Re: Engine Warning Light

I'd put money on it being your MAF. The part is about £120. Pick one up from Mango's on your way home and lob it in. Its a 5 minute job.

If it hasn't had a new one recently, it would be worth doing anyway.

Was it still on when you went home ?

(Alfas have a propensity to display the extravagance of their warning lights on occasion. Sometimes it's expensive, sometimes it needs a reboot...)

Re: Engine Warning Light

I phoned my local independent alfa dealer and after a conversation went out and check my 166, she ran ok, no miss fires or funny noises, however i did still have the warning light, I've been told its ok to drive her as nothing appears wrong! She's booked in for next week so we should have a answer then! I'll be driving her next week (60 miles per day) unless anyone recommends i do otherwise.
Cheers

Re: Engine Warning Light

Mine comes on occasionally - it seems to be related to high demand on the air con coupled with low engine revs.

It normally goes off after 3 or 4 startups.

Once it stayed on for a few weeks & when the OBD jobbie was plugged in, no fault was found & they reset the light & it stayed out.

I wondered about fuel vapourisation, maybe a missing link between the air con & ECU so the car nearly stalls when the air con kicks in.......or something!!!

Re: Engine Warning Light

if you get alfadiag you can reset fault codes yourself and also see what tripped the light in the first place....if it is the air flow meter give desira a bell or check them out on ebay - sold me a genuine bosch MAF for 55 squid.....stay well clear of the other cheap non-bosch ones on ebay - totally useless!

Cheers
