Replace the Water Pump - V6

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to replace the water pump on a 3.0 V6 myself.

I had the Cam belt and tensioners changed 6000 miles ago and never had the water pump touched....DOH......although it recomends it everywhere on these forums.

Can the water pump be changed without removing the Cam belt ?

If anyone has a picture from a manual it would be very helpfull.

Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks....Rod

It might be possible, the water pump is at the top part of the cambelt run, on the top of the block. You would need to slacken the cambelt tensioner to allow removal. I'm not sure if anything gets in the way of its removal
Make sure you replace it with the metal impeller from the GTV.

I heard a few months back that V6 24V replacement water pumps had become rarer than hens teeth. Have you sourced one yet ??

I thought the waterpump was on the Auxilliary belt, not the cam belt ?

Doug,

Yup, managed to get one through my local car accessory shop for £64.00 new, which i thought was a bargain...

All i need to know now is if i can fit it myself. My only concern is knocking out the timing as it looks like i have to remove / loosen the cam belt.

Re: Replace the Water Pump - V6

I found it listed at my local motorfactors at £58, so it should be readily available elsewhere. I don't know whether it has a metal impeller, though. Was the original item plastic?

Re: Replace the Water Pump - V6

IIRC it's the 164 pump that's out of production - apparently the 166 is a bit different. Don't know how much.

How about people posting pics so we can compare & contrast & see if the 166 pump can be made to fit?

True, AROC were reporting the same...but I think a source has now been found, no idea where though
