Alfa 164 gearbox

Hiya

My '97 2.0TS has a slight buzzing noise from the gearbox area from 1500-2000 revs upwards, and when you shift from 1st to neutral or 3rd to neutral it makes aquick, short rattling although fairly solid sounding noise, not too loud. Is this anything to worry about?

I think I'll get it checked out anyway.

Thanks

Chris

Re: Alfa 164 gearbox

Check the oil level. The dipstick is on top of the diff and can be reached if you have a slinky arm. Ver fiddly but doable. The other option is to remove the wheel and inner arch but is a PITA just for checking the level. Top up can be done by removong the reversing switch or via the dipstick hole (very fiddly). A syringe is a good idea.
