Its coming soon...

Hi All,

Just registered, I pick up my new 166 2.0TS Turismo this weekend, its a 2001 'Y' Reg. A birthday present from my better half! It comes with 18" 3.2V6 lusso alloys on it, I was wondering what experience you guys have with these, I dont think the cars been lowered and was wondering about getting it done, How much? and where is best to get it done?
The 166 has the Std ICS system, can you upgrade the unit to add the phone and GPS features?
Have any of you guys done a custom dvd instalation in your 166, i want to add a dvd player for the little lad to watch in the back. What would you recommend?
I'm also looking at spending about £500 to £750 on a few minor upgrades to increase performance and add some BHP!!!!

Cheers,

Dennis (Soon to be 166 owner)

Re: Its coming soon...

166s do not take kindly to lowering. Just take her over some speed bumps or a good high speed thrash on a undulating B road and you'll see why!
Bump stops are well used on 166s....

Check threads for other mods. Believe you can change TS air intake for V6 system for some free-er breathing. Maybe a Squadra chip for the money you've got?

Welcome!

Looks a bit like the same dealer that Topcat got his from?

More pics please when you pick her up. Have the belts, tensioners and variator been replaced recently? If not, thats what £400 of you budget needs to go on.

cheers

Re: Its coming soon...

If the belts have never been done, I'd do them now. I have 50k miles in my mind (I did them then) although 36k is "safer" (see all the posts about dead engines).

Depends on how it's been done and if you have decent shocks. My friends TS (Novitec supercharged in my signature) has lowered springs on Bilstein Sprints and it works great on our crappy Spanish roads.

denniscash: Great buy, looks to be in great shape!!

The owner of that place used to be a regular here - strongly opinionated & really loved 166s.

166lover - I like the look of your beast...See you around Northwich!

By the sound of it i'll get the cambelt done asap.

I'm counting down the days now, Do any of you 166 owners have any pearls of wisdom for me?

Lick Re: Its coming soon...

Dennis,

No pearls really. I saw the motor you bought as it has been offered by GTA since around this time last year (when I was looking) - looked great with the 18" alloys. Not sure if its been used regularly since then?

Just make sure you get the cambelt changed, keep your eye on the oil (Selenia Racing) and tyre pressures/wear checked regularly. Those 18" tyres will cost you £150 each. I'd give the beast a good old run - get those fluids moving and then sit back and smile at 4800rpm when that Twin Spark begins to rasp......and heads start turning!

Also avoid really poor road surfaces/roads with speed humps. Its got low slung guts and as with all Alfa's suspension is tender.

Mangoletsi are pretty good for servicing.

ENJOY!

Re: Its coming soon...

with regards to the cambelt i'm gonna get it changed in a couple of weeks or so, might get a comparison price of mangoletsi! I wanna do a few miles in her first!

166lover - I checked out how much replacement tyres was gonna cost me on blackcircle.com - can get 225 40 18 from 80 each fitted, they may be bargain basement, but worst comes to the worst they'll do and at almost half the price they're dirt cheap!

I'll try and remember to keep the rev's up, My girlfriend has a 1.6 156 which you have to give some stick but it just purrs back at you!
