Hmmm Clutch Pedal and Carpet Mat

I just got my official Alfa Mats for my 166 yesterday.

Problem is now my clutch isn't enaging as well as it was without the carpet. I have been driving with no mat since I got the car a couple of months ago.

Obviously some problem with the clutch pedal but wondering if anyone has had this and will it be an easy fix somewhere in the pedal/drivers area ? Or is it a more mechanical adjustment in the engine area?

Re: Clutch Pedal and Carpet Mat

mine is like that - snags the mat when it creeps forward. I actually put new holes in the mats for the retainers to hold the mats further back which seems to do the trick, although the retainers are less than robust....

Idea Re: Clutch Pedal and Carpet Mat

Sounds like the clutch pedal box is going (poor design for RHD cars). Every 166 I'd test driven had the same problem; you had to press the clutch pedal throught the floor to change gear. It got better as it "warmed up", but was really difficult in the morning.

I have just had the clutch pedal box rebuilt by my man at T I Auto Engineers in Dublin to great effect (Gerry - +35318386567). Biting point was in the floor and cruise control would not work - all fixed; along with siezed handbrake cables and a full 12,000 mile service, for £622. Not cheap but its like a new car.

Thanks GCRF, I have had her in with Gerry since I got her for a full service and new CamBelt, along with new exhaust, new discs and pads and other bits. He did note the clutch and fixed the cruise switch (which I had done, but he did better). Perhaps he didn't want to hit me with more work yet but he didn't say he thought it was going. The geezer who had the car before me had put in a new clutch and I did draw Gerrys attention to it, but he seemed to be happy enough. Anyhow I'll see how she goes and thanks for the tip off. The mat has a sliver removed and the gear change it lovely for the mo.....
