Hmmm Sit still!

Hi all,

I purchased some gorgeous electric leather seats for my 164 and have installed them. Loving the luxury.
But there is one small fly in the ointment. The drivers seat, though bolted firmly to the floor, has some movement in it. The whole seat - back rest and seat base/squab(?) move slightly when entering and exiting the car and under heavy acceleration.

Is this something I am likely to have to live with, as there may not be any easily accesible bolts, nuts or bushes that can be tightened to stop this looseness? Looks like I would have to unbolt motors etc to gain access to the inner workings where the seat joins with the frame and it may all be in vain. Also worried that messing with the motors might cause them to get stroppy and stop working.

Has anyone attempted to rectify wobbles before, or is it best left? I could love with it, but being so anal about these things, it will niggle away.

Re: Sit still!

If it's really bolted tightly to the floor, and doesn't need washers or anything, get someone to check the seat mountings underneath - may need welding.

Re: Sit still!

Hi

I am guessing if they are leather then they are electric as well?

If that is the case it is not uncommon for the electric motors to have abit of play in them just like your describing. As stated above check the mounting points are secure but don't be suprised if it is only excess play in the motors.

Re: Sit still!

I have the same problem occaisionally - feels just like a manual seat thats been adjusted but not quite latched. Assumed that's what it was - good to see it's not uncommon.

Re: Sit still!

Thanks all for your tips.

I doubt it is the mounting points as they are very solid and the rails don't move when sitting in the seat. But if you lean back, you can feel the seat tilt backwards slightly and then it drops forwards again. So it feels like it is either wear in the frame somewhere, or perhaps play in the motors as suggested. I think living with it will be easier than taking the seat apart - I would be likely to land up with a seat with more movement and broken motors!
