Re: Check gearbox oil level?

I've only seen it done when on a ramp (not even sure where the small and hard to read stick actually comes out) - don't think it can be done unless the car is raised and dead level.

Re: Check gearbox oil level?

If its anything like the 164, (beleive the V6 & TS boxes have the same casing) the gbox dipstick is halfway down the side of the box, on the bulkhead side.

1st thing you'll need to get at it is a 2nd joint in your arm

To access from above, you'd need to remove the inlet rubber hose & a variety of other items.

From below, it requires a little manual dexterity, but is probably easier..
Look for the gbox drain plug & follow its line up.

If you want to fill the box, use the reversing light switch hole (22mm deep socket)

My days of not taking you seriously are definitely coming to a middle

Re: Check gearbox oil level?

As I recollect it's the same as on the 164. Easiest access without bending your members in awkeward positions is to remove the left side wheel and inner arch. It's there clear as day and easy to acces. You can top up directly into the dipstick hole by using a syringe although the reversing switch method sounds better. I'll have to try that one next time!
