Gearbox mount

I need to swap the gearbox mount on my 24v manual 164.
Having seen on another forum that the autobox mount fits & is much cheaper, I'm intending to replace with that.

Problem is the people who have made the swap are running 12v's - I'm not aware of any differences in the gearboxes or subframe between the 12 & 24v's, but want to check.

Does anyone on here does know of any such differences, or has anyone made the swap themselves?

Re: Gearbox mount

Hope this helps:

Auto trans mount is part number 60556613 @ 27.69 Euros +VAT
Good for model years from 1987 through to 1997

Manual trans mount is part number 60510342 @ 135.46 +VAT
Good for model years from 1987 through to 1997

Basically the 12v and 24v share the same engine mounts transmision side. Not sure about adapting the part to fit but for the price it's worth trying the cheaper method especially if it has been done before.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Re: Gearbox mount

Thanks - that clears up if being 12 or 24v is an issue.
I'm sure someone on the 164 Discussions forum did the swap, just can't find it now

Re: Gearbox mount

I believe the only difference between them is the length of the stud being longer on the AT mount. You don't have to modify anything though so go ahead, it shouldn't be a problem at all and the saving is huge!

Re: Gearbox mount

£50 is a nice saving for no effort (£26 auto to £75 manual).

I suspect the difference will be in the robustness of the mount.
Seems sensible that a manual transmission would have higher transient loads than an auto, so would require more strength to reach the same fatigue life, but within reason, who cares

Re: Gearbox mount

Had a go last weekend & the short answer is "D'oh"

Had got the wheels off, loosened the other mounts, took the gbox mount out & compared it with the autobox mount

The pictures show the problem.
The space between the bolt holes is noticeably smaller on the auto box mount & although there is a 3rd hole on the subframe it doesn't seem to line up. So I need to 2 do a little more research & see how other people have done it.

On the up side, at least I could see the current mount isn't hanging by a thread, and I was able to put some spacers under the front engine mount - I'm using the rear one at the front & it occasionally would tap the subframe, which now seems to be cured.

My days of not taking you seriously are definitely coming to a middle
