V6 TURBO Question

I wonder the type of turbo my 1999 166 2.0 V6 has.
The eper product code 60607750 gives no idea.
My web search revealed that it probably is Garrett T25.
My service dealer had once commented that Garrett and Mitsubishi are used alternatively by AR.

If it definitely is T25 (my question # 1), then ways and experience of upgrading to larger turbos (Q #2).

Re: V6 TURBO Question

I would imagine a simple remap would give you heaps of extra power.

Re: V6 TURBO Question

A remap is under consideration but I would rather mount a larger turbo then remap - if this is the way to go for better reliability of the engine and the whole system.

Ball bearing (BB) turbos spool more quickly and give more power than journal bearing ones - as I have read. An upgrade with similar sized BB turbo is what I have in mind first.

Re: V6 TURBO Question

if it is a T25 then a T28 would be a straight swap AFAIK. Think they were fitted to quite a lot of cars as well so you should be able to source one of them fairy easily. I think though, if you are looking for uprated as well as a bigger turbo you're probably best speaking to experts....

Cheers

If you're feeling brave , you could approach the....let's say.. inimitable Alfadublin on this forum.

Though it doesn't sound like you want to go as hardcore as his 147.

Re: V6 TURBO Question

166 is meant for large saloon & luxury. I do not intend to do such stuff on this car.

Btw, one mor ething that I wonder, Garrett product catalog lists all current products as GTxx. I am confused on whether T series is obsolete?

I have no idea, but I do produce a lot of product catalogues for engineering companies and they quite often change the product codes/list numbers even though the products remain the same.

Re: V6 TURBO Question

I conclude that 166 turbo is not a car with mod-enthusiastic owners. Having talked to local service dealers, noone ever seemed to bother with even chipping.

Ebay lists large number of Garrett turbos (second hand & new). I may dare buy one in the future.
