Will a 75 America engine go into a 164???

Well a cars life depends on this one.

It's going to cost me 3000 Euros to get my old 12v with a borken piston ring rebuilt and running or it will cost me about 1200 Euros to have an engine installed from a 75 America (3.0 V6 12v).

Does anyone know if this will go??? I believe the block and heads are the same but will the gearbox fit and will the engine supports work???

Thanks

J

Not so hasty... I seem to recall that the anciliarys bolt on differently but basically it's the same engine. All you have to do is to switch the sumps over. The transaxle sumps have a different shape all together. Maybe, and just maybe you may have to swap the oilpump and oil strainer/pickup too, but if it's working okay on the old engine, that shouldnt hold you back

Forgot to mention, took for granted;

Then there's of course the obvious things like intake and outlet manifolds, but I guess that figures. Swapping them over will only set you back the price of a few gaskets.

Re: Will a 75 America engine go into a 164???

Ultimately it's to do with cost. Do I repair, or do I convert. I still have the option of buying an engine which is ultimately the cheaper bet.

Here's what I got from 164 Discussions:

Change the oil pan, crank pulley and flywheel.

Oil pump assembly with nut and washer to hold gear to pump shaft.

Both heads/cams as you need left cam/head set up to mount distributor and right head to mount top dog bone plate to studs in head behind cam pulley.

Aux shaft with oil pump gears and timing belt pulley in right head different from 75.

Engine block different too up front as you need studs in block to mount front engine mount for A/C compressor/alternator that will be hard to install to a 75 block.

I think that is the most of it but it is easier to convert a 164 engine to 75 engine configuration than other way around.
