Help Drivers Door won't open

Hi, I locked my 166 today only to find out when i came back that the drivers door will no longer open.....

The door unlocks, the button goes up and down, all the other doors open but the drivers door will just not open. I have tried both inside and out but no luck.

Does anyone have any idea's as i'm getting worried that if the door lock is stuck i can't think of anyway to get the door open again whilst it's closed...

I have also tried all the spare keys including the Valet key...

I am a member of the RAC but can't see any point in calling them as the lock etc works, even the door handles still feel tight so i doubt anything has broken...

Any idea's would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.....Rod

Re: Drivers Door won't open

eeek! that could be a tricky one....not sure what's best to do to be honest - you could try taking out the switch pack and other bits on the door panel to see if you can access the inside but if it's actually the lock bit thats jammed it won't help much.

Does the handle pull like the door is still locked or does it feel like its not pulling something?

Re: Drivers Door won't open

Thanks for the info, the door handle feels like the door is unlocked to be honest and it not loose or anything so hopefully it still attached to something.

Do you know if it's possible to remove the inside door panel with the door closed to get to the inside as i'm not sure what you mean by the switch packs etc.

The only thing i can think of is having to replace the door and use a blow tourch to take off the outside skin to get to the inside and lock bits... ...how drastic is that....

Thanks...Rod

i think you could take the door card out without opening the door..it might be a bit akward but i think you can do it...

taking a blow torch the the door to get to the lock bits is a bit OTT imho.....

Re: Drivers Door won't open

It could be a lever in the inside lock mechanism that's stuck, the one operating the door latch. I would try operating the inside lock lever in various positions while trying to open the door. It might just work; I've had my fair share of luck doing so. The last place I worked as a mechanic, we had lots of Sonata's playing up like that. Yes, I know it's a Hyundai, but it was butter to my bread, so I couldn't complain. But a lot of them suffered from a broken spring inside the door locking mechanism. I got the hang of it eventually, and with a wooden wedge and a piece of coathanger wire I could get down alongside the window glass, grab the stuck lever, pull it into the right position, and open the door without damaging the door card or the door, in less than 5 minutes. Perhaps you should talk to your friendly dealer, they might know of a similar trick when it comes to 166's.

Best of luck

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Re: Drivers Door won't open

another option if you can't get the door panel out with the door closed (i don't think you'll be able to...) would be to hack into it from the inside and then source a new one from a breaker - better than having to replace the whole door!

The door switch packs lever out so that might give you a wee bit of access to the innards - can't remember how much though.

Good luck!

Call the RAC - you pay for the service, and they will fix it for free with luck (especially if it's just labour needed )
