Decent alfa-friendly garage in W London?

Hi all

I've recently moved over to the UK from Dublin where I had found a great alfa specialist through this site who was great.

I need some very small work done (new rear shock on one side) to my V6 166 and was wondering can anyone recommend a good garage in the West London area (ideally Windsor/Slough/Heathrow area)

I need the shock supplied and installed, that's about it I think.

Kind regards

Colm

Re: Decent alfa-friendly garage in W London?

It has been a long time since I used them, but I used to use a garage called alfa aid who are now based in maidenhead I believe. They weren't the cheapest but were always honest, knowledgeable and helpful. They don't have a website but advertise in auto italia.

Also in Mortlake there is DTRSports www.dtrsports.com I haven't used them but a guy I used to work with always used to take his barchetta there and just took his 156 to them for a service, he was very happy with there work..

Hope that is some help.

Rear shocks are a killer on labour cost - go to a cheap place, or rip the inside of the car out yourself (search through previous posts about the job), then put it all back later.

Also, shouldn't shocks be replaced in pairs

Go for lowered springs at the same time & make full use of the opportunity

Oops,

I've never liked the phrase 'Killer on labour cost' especially since the SAGA of replacing the clutch last year :-(

can anyone give me an idea of what they paid to replace rear shock(s)?

Kind regards

Welcome to the UK and high garage labour costs especially round here!
As mentioned above Alfa Aid in Maidenhead are the business. Just ring up Adrian Jardine and he'll give you a good quote. He's not cheap but unlike every other Alfa garage I know, when he gives you an estimate he comes in pretty close to target, and he'll cut you a fair deal. I've been using him for a few years, and there is a good reason why he doesn't bother advertising: personal recommendation keeps the business going - they are a real Alfa specialist not a Fiat dealership in disguise! He is at Highway garage, 186 Bath Rd, Maidenhead, Berks SL6 4LB, Phone 01628 788887
Good luck and watch for the doggie!
