Wobbly driver's side window switch

The switch just started to go a bit wobbly and so doesn't make proper contact when winding up. The window still does wind up, just a little bit difficult to use. How easy to fix?

I do like to drive with my window slightly down, so I think it's just over use that's done this!

Re: Wobbly driver's side window switch

In true Alfa style it seems to have fixed itself. For now...

Re: Wobbly driver's side window switch

I have a similar intermittant fault with the passenger side window switch.
It works fine from the drivers controls but every now and then refuses to go up with the passengers switch. Does anyone know what sort of a job it is to change. I must get round to sorting it soon as my wife keeps telling me that the car is not as good as her 5 series BMW as nothing has gone wrong with it in three years. I have explained the problem with her BMW is not reliability just the fact that they are as common as a Modeo and not as much fun to drive as an exclusive 166.

Stevo.

Re: Wobbly driver's side window switch

Happened me too at close to three years. It was just that a tiny leg of the rocker switch had broken. The switch itself is trivial and Cheap to replace, Just a small piece of plastic.
Don't think the garage charged me and just did it as part of a Service.

Cheers

The switch has finally broken. Phoned the dealers to request one switch to be ordered - they said they could only order it as the unit bank of four switches - £100. Thats Autoworld in Sheffield, just in case you need to know where not to go. You can guess what I told them to do...

So any spare switches knocking about? It must be possible to buy just one surely?

I appreciate that this is no good to you, but i have just sold a brand new switch set on ebay for about £20, they are often for sale as people diagnose a switch fault when something else is faulty ( as i did ). I have seen a few on ebay over the last couple of years and i should have twigged that this a common error.

Cheers Carlos

Re: Wobbly driver's side window switch

I have been having trouble with my drivers window (see seperate thread) and thought it was the switch. I had this out a couple of times and it looks like it isn't possible to get individual switches out of the unit and therefore you have to replace the whole bleeding lot.
However the window packed up completely last week after getting very juddery when it did manage to move. I took the motor out to bench test it and couldn't get a peep out of it. Luckily Carlo had a spare used motor which soon winged its way to S. London (thanks Carlo) and this is now fitted and working well.
So I decided to find out why the old motor failed. This is a sealed unit - motor, arms and all - so you have virtually destroy it to get inside. You also have to drill out rivets so I don't anticipate it getting back together again. Anyway the bottom line is that the motor was full of very rusty looking water. Why can't Alfa get decent suppliers of this type of item - the Germans don't have these problems - do they?

Re: Wobbly driver's side window switch

Thanks for your replies. Looks like its a case of hunting on ebay and online breakers then! The window still works just by resting the switch on the connector and using it that way, so its not completely urgent.

I am sure that the mirror switch set is separate (it just fits into the unit)
