long Journey

Just done 450 miles (as 2x225 journeys) and got 30.5mpg Not too bad a for a 3.0

Running at 80-100 mostly on cruise control, but A/C set to ECON apart from a few short spells driving into the sun, as outside air temp was low enough to get away with it.

So, A/C takes an average of 2mpg to run (based on previous long runs with A/C on, getting 28-29 mpg).

Good job the depreciation and servicing costs are so high on a 166, or I might have to think about how much extra petrol A/C costs

don't mention Z4

Re: long Journey

Hmm I doubt very much that A/C costs 2mpg, unless its a really really hot day. It will only work when required, otherwise an electromag clutch disengages it (I think )
Especially in a 3litre, the extra loading on the engine is minimal compared to say a 1.3 Micra with air con on. Perhaps you just had a lucky steady flow journey.
I've managed a 550 mile round trip and got 35mpg (2.5) with air con on but only becaue it was motorway almost door to door and average speed was 70, max 90 never less than 70 and a wee wee/espresso break.
Speed up/slow down is a killer with the V6 as you just can't resist that heavy right foot when the traffic clears.

Anybody else notice that cruise control seems to have better acceleration on the recall button, than using your right foot on motorway? Or is it just me?

Italian Engineering - I notice that the cruise control 'recall' REALLY goes for it, but I would say that it uses about 90% throttle (I get slightly better acceleration with my right foot).

Re: long Journey

These are impressive figures guys for a V6 - i only managed about 31mpg on a recent trip to wales (about 1k miles of mixed driving) although i think i can get about 35 with a light foot on along motorway journey.

Just out of interest, what is your average figures on mixed driving over a long period ie the figure on the trip computer under "continued" - mine always seems to settle on 31.....

Cheers
Niall

ICS on my 166 tells me my average consumtion for the last 10,000 km-s is 11,3 L / 100 km (about 32 mpg I guess). Its about 50:50 city and motorway driving. And yes, aircon does increase consumption a bit (adds about 1 L / 100 km).

Re: long Journey

I usualy manage around 31-33 mpg on a half decent run in my 2.5 v6. Although earlier this year going across europe, I tried it with the aircon in full on the way out and econ on the way back an didn't make the slightest difference over 2000 miles! Round town though just forget it! Its a big cruiser after all not a town car.

Usually around 25, but I am suffering from rush hour traffic now, so it is mostly 22-23

Re: long Journey

I'm getting around 22-25 at the moment, generally in heavy motorway traffic and around town. Although my tendency to floor it as soon as a gap opens up may have something to do with that
