tyre size - definative
after looking around the various threads regards tyre sizes, i have seen that it seems that for a 17" wheel size , fitting a tyre of the spec such as 225/45/17 is the rule
a few agreements here would be confirmation that its way to go unless ???????

That is the correct 17" size for a 166.

I've been using various 225/45/17 Tyres on my 147 GTA's 17" wheels since delivery in 2005.

The only 166 manual I have only has 3.2v6 & 2.4JTD and they need "Y".
But 100% you CAN NOT use "H" rated summer tyres on any 166.

..don't forget the load rating as well. A tyre for a corsa will have a more flexible sidewall and this has an effect ride/handling etc..
One size either side of the 225 probably won't make that much difference, but you're better off with the right size i reckon.. 215s will also have marginally less sidewall, and 235s more. This effects turn-in, ride etc too..
It's also worth keeping in mind that one manufactures 225 isn't necessarily the exact same width as another's 225.. if you're ever tight for space this can catch you out unexpectedly

Your 2.0 litre TS will require a minimum speed rating of V (up to 149mph/240kph), although W (up to 168mph/270kph) would be a safer option. The max all-up gross weight of your car is 4255 lbs/1930 kgs (which is 1064 lbs/483 kgs per tyre) therefore your minimum load rating should be 90W (1323 lbs/600 kgs) or 91W (1356 lbs/615 kgs).
So your minimum spec should be 225/45/17-90W.... However as the standard tyre size for the 166TS is 205/55/16, you'll need to be sure that the 225/45/17's will not contact the front wings at full lock.

ic thanks, however u mention full lock contact, i'm looking also to fit eibach springs shortly also , will that also effect the height issue betrween the wings & 17"s that i plan to fit

I fitted an Eibach spring kit to my GTA (lowered by 3.5cm all round), and I've never experienced body/wing contact... however 225/45/17 tyres are standard for the GTA. But if they don't foul the wings on your standard springs, I doubt that lowering the ride height will have any adverse effect (but it does depend upon the amount of height reduction you are aiming for),

Have a look in a 166 manual, all the std & optional homologated sizes will be in there and the 17" is 225/45R17 91Y.

You are quite right David, I've just checked an online 166 owners manual which lists 215/55/16 tyres as standard, with 225/45/17 as an option, (and standard on the "Distinctive" version)... which illustrates why I advised that abr4r should double check on the applicability for his car.
However this does clarify that 225/45/17's should not pose any problems with his car.
Thanks for the info'.

..yeah, the 16"s on the 2.0 cars are 6.5j, but the V6 cars with the brembos use a wider 7j 16" wheel. The 6.5j wheels won't clear the calliper i think.

thankfully not yet, after about a year of ownership only a faulty starter motor & broken window switch have given cause for concern
