Which tyre for 3 litre Spotronic.
Which of the two Pirellis would be more suitable for a 2005 F/L 3 Litre Sportronic, P6000 or P Zero Assymetrico?

How much do you see the traction control light on, if you see it a lot, upgrade, if youve never seen it, or just the once in a blue mood, downgrade and save yourself some money!
Just dont go toooo cheap!
So id go with the P6000.

They are both available at the same price, £123 fitted inc VAT.

Have a look at Avon, might be a lot cheaper. Maybe £100 mark.

My F/L 3.0 sporto 166 is shod with Pirelli Rosso 235/40 18s (which I think is the original type fitted).
That's a good price if it's for the same tyre, I've just paid £160 or £170 each for mine (I've forgotten & can't find the bill). Maybe you're using 17", I use 18".
Do be aware that there are two versions, our Sportos should use the "Heavy Duty" version (or so I've been told)...

All I've ever heard about P6000s is how crap they are. Mine is on Falken Ziex 912s.
Oh, and I hope you realised this topic would result in a flood of alternative suggestions when you posted it!

The Falken Ziex 912s is a very good tyre, I had them for 2 years, but imho they are discontinued.
Also agree about the P6000, the first positive comment I read about them was a few posts above.

I don't think the 912 has been discontinued. I was on Blackcircles a couple of weeks ago looking for tyres for my other car and they had 912s available.

I've used Hankooks on my 166 for the past three years/15,000 miles, on the recommendation of my rallying pal who said they give good grip and good mileage. Paid £80 a tyre and they're about half worn now.
Even wear, no traction issues, have seen 128mph on the satnav, have driven through snow and our muddy paddock with no problems. Cheap, yes. Good, yes.

Same here!
I have nearly new Pirelli P7s on my Golf that the previous owner fitted and they are absolutely terrible. Think they are built for longevity, not grip.
Did you ever sell your Super GL??

The Falken ZE 912s are still listed on Camskill, but 'No Stock and No Delivery Date'
FALKEN TYRES / CAR / FALKEN ZE912 ZIEX FALKEN ZE 912 - 225/45R17 94W XL TL £68.80 Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres - 17" R17" - 225/45/17, 225/45 R 17
Eiretyres says that the 912s should be available by June
http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.p...124&sowigan=So
I'll be looking for 17s soon, might try the other Falkens
FALKEN TYRES / CAR / FALKEN FK452 FALKEN FK 452 - 225/45R17 94Y XL TL £77.00 Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres - 17" R17" - 225/45/17, 225/45 R 17
Currently have Toyo Proxes fitted to the GT - had them before and they are the best value for money I've found so far. Really like Continental Sport Contacts, but they're expensive, especially for the GT, which wears tyres quickly.
Cowboys Ted, they're a bunch of cowboys!

My wife has had the Falken 452s on the Rav for a while now and I know someone who had them fitted on a GT before and was happy with them. I have 3 different kinds of Chinese ****e on the 16s on the 166 now (came with the car) and am still on the road .
I wouldn't spend much more than €600 all in on 4 tyres for either the GT or the 166. I drive a lot, but it's not the type of driving where I'd see the benefit of premium tyres.

Had Falken 452s on my 156, liked them good grippy tyre.
Replaced all 4 tyres on the 166 2 weeks ago with Avon zv5. £360 all in. , no complaints so far.
Originally wanted Goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 2s, however the need to replace all 4 dictated a cheaper tyre.
Abit apprehensive about using cheaper tyres until it dawned on me that I don't drive the nuts off the 166,unlike the 156. Fully converted to waffting everywhere, no need for ulitmate performance tyres.

Nope. It's curently SORNed and gets driven around our underground car park for a few quick laps once a week
I'll put it back on the road in about 6 months time and see if I can sell it on then. Also got a mate who said he may be interested in buying when he loses his company car in a few months, but I won't hold my breathe.
Ironically, for all my previous negativity towards 166s in general, I got a little bit of love for it on the journey down to London just a couple of weeks before I SORNed it

I had P6000s on the 145 when we first bought it, and they are shockers, unless they have changed in the last 10 years. They has a nice crisp turn in, but ride, noise, wet braking, wet grip, wet traction were all worse, and by some margin.
I went for Bridgestones RE050s, grippy, quiet but poor in snow and seem to wear quite radiply. The best set I found were Nokains (on the car), made in Finland, but part of the Bridgestone group, there were truly excellent, but hard to find.

You cannot beat a good waft, but occasionally the Germans have to be put in their place.

I was the same. Very rarely had the traction control light flashing, and even when the TCS was off (due to an intermittant fault) I was never upsetting the tyres. And that includes the numerous months that I was driving it on the barely legal old tyres. Likewise I've never really thrown the 166 around the bends, becuase it's just not that type of a car.
Although part of my behaviour was perhaps the subconscious desire to try and maintain the clutch lifespan, and the all too conscious desire to try and make the most of the petrol. Although I've come to realise that it doesn't actually seem to make much difference whether you nurse it through every journey or show it the full rev band through the first 3 gears, it still seems to drink about the same!

What did you end up buying to replace it?
