166 Rear Shelf Speakers and Power Amp

Hi guys

Quick question for you lucky chaps with the upgraded stereo system - where does the power amp in the rear of the car get its audio feed? Does it just use the high level input from the other rear speakers or is there a line level feed somewhere?

Cheers
Niall

Re: 166 Rear Shelf Speakers and Power Amp

me not got......... sorry.

Amp is £100's, so unless you could get one from ebay or a scrapper cheap, I wouldn't bother.

Rear Shelf Speakers are something I want - approx £35 each from Alfa, but I am sure you can get a better deal from a ICE shop, just never got around to it.

Re: 166 Rear Shelf Speakers and Power Amp

i think you should be able to fit normal speakers - not sure what size, maybe 17cm ones? I was also hoping you might be able to use a normal power amp for them with maybe some line level inputs available from the ICS system. Suppose speaker level outputs would work as well but not quite as good....

Cheers

Thumbs Up Re: 166 Rear Shelf Speakers and Power Amp

Hi all

I have the upgraded system in my car with the rear subs etc.
To be really honest with you I don't rate it that much.
Now the fact that I mix and write music for a living may have a little bearing on this but if it were me I would go see a car hifi shop I would imagine it would be far cheaper as well than getting the genuine alfa parts which I think don't sound that great anyway. The bass end is very weak even when you use lots of eq and the mid range and top end just dont have that hifi edge to them. Maybe its just my car but I would leave it to an expert they will make it sound far better anyway.

The 166 went in for its service today at 55 k getting the cam belt and the plugs done plus all the other belts as well. Can't wait to see the bill !!!!!

I will let you all know what I end up paying as I have used an old friend of mine who is an alfa specialist.

Re: 166 Rear Shelf Speakers and Power Amp

Niall,

Does you car have pre-installed rear speaker wiring, or are you going to have to run in new cable??

Do you happen to know what out puts the ICS audio system has un-used.

Thanks
Anthony

Re: 166 Rear Shelf Speakers and Power Amp

I wish i knew the answer to those questions Anthony

I'm just looking to upgrade on the cheap - hopefully add a power amp and some better speakers but there's no way i'm paying crazy alfa prices....

Cheers

Re: 166 Rear Shelf Speakers and Power Amp

Niall,

Looks like you're leading on this one.

I'll wait to hear how you get on, as I also don't want to pay dealer (stealer) prices for the kit, when ther are better aftermarket speakers/amps out there.
