166 Wipers Unhappy wipers - now fixed but need help with alignment

Hi and welcome to my first post :-)

I recently followed the instructions to clean the grease off the windscreen wipers motor as described at http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...py-wipers.html (Happy Wipers)

Now I have put everything back together the wipers no longer park correctly. when I switch them off they go to the bottom of the windscreen then go back up about 3 inchs.

When using the stalk to operate the wipers normally they cover the windscreen correctly i.e. do not go beyond the range of the windscreen.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

That sounds the reverse of their operation, ie normal parked at base and three inches from base when working. Did you cycle the motor as stated before re-assembly. What was the problem before you started. Don't think is possible but have you put one of the connectors upside down?

I will retry the motor cycle

I followed the instructions as laid out by Addey and I did cycle the motor before assembling again but I will check to see if there is a bend with the link assembly and post back later.

Thanks

Success!!!!!

WHOOP WHOOP the wipers are all back working to 100% - even the rain sensor is now better than its ever been - The linkage was slightly bent hence the problem I was having after the overhaul.

Thanks everyone!!

there is a back box below the rear view mirror on the front windscreen. is this the rain sensors for the wipers?

how is the rain sensor supposed to function? my wipers work the same as regular wipers on any other car. how can I check if they are functioning properly?

Couldn't say if this is the way they are supposed to work...but on ours, to engage rain sensing operation:

Switch wipers to second position on stalk - i.e. normal steady wipe for a cycle or two, then back up one step on the stalk. That should be it. You adjust the amount of water required to trigger a wipe by rotating the end of the wiper stalk - rotate further and it's more sensitive. The rain sensor function replaces the intermitent mode and uses the same controls to change it's behaviour.

You could test it by following the above procedure and spraying some water on the screen where the sensor sits....or just wait for some rain

I find on mine that even if left in sense mode, unless I manually kick them into life after starting the car, they won't activate. The Jeep is different - that will always activate if they are left in sense mode.

HTH

does it provide any feedback to indicate that it is in rain sensing mode? a light? a beep or something?

The wipers will sit in ready mode if you like, i.e. not down below the bonnet.
