Help Alfa 166 position light problem

hi there friends and alfa owners

im having a problem with my 166 and maybe you guys already had such issue. The problem starts to occur when i turn the ignition key. When i look at the display the position lights icon is on, the lower fog beams are on (somethimes off) and the 2 switches located on the ICS wich controls the lower fog beams and the rear assistence fog lights simply freeze. Ive looked for fuses and relays but all are ok. The interesting is that sometimes later using the car normally the issue disapears and the switches are back to fully functional. Has anyone gone through this problem?

Yes I had the rear fog light switch freeze in a 2000 2.0 TS I ran years ago. Not that hard to change the entire switch panel but it takes time as you have to pull the whole ICS unit out. IIRC the fog light/hazard light switches are fixed to the ICE surround using small phillips screwdrivers, which you can't get to easily unless you remove the whole ICS unit and unplug it. Make sure you have the code....

Can't think what else it could be.

Is it the display in the ics unit or the display below the rev and speed dials?

Thanks for the reply Paul.O. Its the display below the rev and speed dials. The position light icon looks like a girls eyes "oo" and when i turn the ignition key it stays on, freezing both fog switches in the ics unit.

If its a hazard switch in the ics unit its really troublesome. Ive removed the ics unit once and its a delicate and boring work. But ill check it anyways. Thans for the reply Chris.

Its most likely the M45 light control unit which is found underneath the centre console and can be seen by removing the side panels.
