MOT time - ABS fails - HELP
Dear All,
166 3.2 Ti!!
MOT expires on Friday coming, so on Sunday, check the car over, replace a couple of lamps, all lovely, the back box/suspension should scrape through. For good measure, what with Xenons, fitted new pop up mechanism to headlight washers on both sides, and had new tyres fitted all round last week (Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric Mk2, WOW, proper tyre!!)
Went to supermarket Sunday aftenoon, and ASR switch light, wheel spin warning light and ABS light all come on, en route. According to hand book, "ABS Fault".
Meter sensors, and find three are identical and NSR (the last one of the four, and have to remove battery and gubbings to get to it, of course) is open circuit.
Manage to get new Hall sensor lead (genuine Bosch), and just fitted it. However, dash is still in Christmas Tree mode. EXPLETIVE.
Do I need to get to an OBD examiner to reset it, or should it have reset once new sensor fitted? I am now becoming desperate, what with impending MOT fail.....
Help!?!

with regard to the obd reader after looking at the manual for mine it does list some brake trouble codes so an obd may clear the problem depending on what warning light is on.

Check that the brake light switch is OK - a maladjusted one generated a full house of error lights on mine. Fixed simply by pushing the brake pedal down, grabbing the white nylon plunger of the switch with some grips and pulling it out a bit (you can hear a ratcheting sound), release pedal, job done.
The fact you had a duff sensor would suggest it's not that switch....but it's easily checked.
As AA says, read the error codes.

I think I have found the problem.
On testing the new sensor, all I did was turn on the engine, and wait for the dash to calm down. I didn't actually move the car....
Having now driven the car, it appears that the ABS ECU needs to see a stream of pulses coming from the sensor, before it recognises that it is working, and no longer faulty. Less than 10m out of my drive, and full brake performance restored, and dash board all calm again!!
Long story short, all now good!!
Nothing more to see here, carry on......

And I now have a MOT!! No advisories either!! ISH.
Not bad for 150+K Miles.....
Although, as he reversed it off the pit, at the end of the test, the NSR brake light failed, he smirked, tapped it, it came back on, and said "verbal advisory".

Guess what i did today Early . It's very difficult to press the brake and tap the light on your own and as lack of appreciation from family until theirs goes ping.
After boy's van got thro its MOT she sat furra month. Went for a wee drive to keep her up to scratch.....no speedo...abs light on...Research reveals NSF hub bearing c/w intergral sensor....So I had a wee look before I bought a bearing (Ref Lucy's MOT..bearing was fine) I disconnected and reconnected the wire sensor connection and hey presto ABS light off and speedo working.a good result.
