Old Alfa's never die they just go faster!

About 2 years ago I bought a 164 2L TS of a bloke I knew emigrating to Aus. I've had a few Lancia's and Fiats before but never an Alfa.

Was in pretty poo shape when I got it but tinkered around and replaced bits (some of which didn't need doing) as I intended to give up company car and run the 164.

However - I discovered the delights of Alfa and bought a 147 Selespeed earlier this year so the 164 hasn't had a look in - until last week.

Took the the old lady up to Norfolk, ended up playing with a Clio 172 sport en-route.

Took him at 120mph just hitting the rev limiter and went on to a registered 136mph!!!

Faster than my shiny new 147!! Should have seen the Clio owners face!!!!

Mind you when I checked the oil it had all gone!

Going to Norfolk again today 147 or 164.......???

Took the 147 in the end to show off my Lexus style lights.......

!64 had MOT yesterday - knew rear box was blowing so had a second hand one slapped on - other than that the old lady passed!!!

Will definately be getting some tlc this weekend if the weather permits!

P.S. anyone know where the oil pressure sender is on a 1991 2.0L TS - guage never reads any pressure now - least I think its the sender!!

164 TSpark

Re: Old Alfa's never die they just go faster!

My old 91 Tspark still shocks me how well it drives and performs even after 160,000 + miles.

It's a tragedy how "worthless" they are. Keep seeing 164s on eBay for £300! I'd buy one if my "worthless" old '55 wasn't doing an equally good job. Blinkin' marvellous, dudes.

Re: Old Alfa's never die they just go faster!

Doing well over a ton I came up behind an Audi S3 sitting in the outside lane doing 90 with no one on the inside lane. He pulled over, then sat on my tail. When the motorway finished we got involved in a bit of a burnout (roundabouts on the A31 if you know it). Obviously I didn't stand a chance, but I couldn't believe how well I was keeping up (I don't think he could either). If only I'd had the cloverleaf!

If I'm not mistaken it's on the back of engine near the gearbox end of the block

Re: Old Alfa's never die they just go faster!

Just bought another 164 this week for £142 off e-bay. Another nice V6 to add the other vehicles on my drive.

I think we may get some driving out of this one before I steel the motor to put in something lighter.

She does sound nice tho'

I think from memory ( I used to have a 91 TS) it on the front of engine right hand side upper as you are looking at it, it is a screw in affair

Alfa Romeo 166

Re: Old Alfa's never die they just go faster!

i have a 164 TS and a 3.0 166! The 166 is everything that the 164 isnt, but the 164 is everything that the 166 isnt. The 164 is one amazing car, it just pulls and pulls and pulls and still wants more! I've had many races and beat them all! although those diesel audi are bloody fast! any long trip id take the 164 any day! the 166 is a female version! you never see a woman driving a 164!

oh and when an alfa driver drives past when your in the 164 and waves and flashes! wheres that all gone with the new alfa's.

..glad to hear everyone enjoying their tsparks. they're great old soldiers, and it's very sad to see them ending up on scrapheaps around the place.

had some fun a few weeks back with a new saab 9.5 2.0t.. he pulled up beside me in a right-only filter lane at the lights. when the liights changed he floored it staight ahead, so i thought feck it, and floored the tspark.. gobbled him up..!
