I'm waiting until they give their final decision before naming the company.

I'm going to bet its not elephant. Thats what I've really like about them. I have three claims with them (sadly) and never once have they tried to worm out of it.

very gentlemanly, however they have had enough time.
They are like football referees, not noted for changing their minds.

Right - as they've now agreed to pay out I've had a call today with a valuation and they've offered £2500 (less £150 excess).
Can anybody quantify if this is in line with the true valuation please?
166 Super, 1999 - V with 130k miles.
Factory extras; Xenon headlights, 17" horseshoe wheels, leather, sunroof.

Mine was valued at £2000 and I pushed them to £2300 - 150,
So Iwould be very happy with £2500. Never hurts to ask though!

I think 2500 is a good figure to be honest

My summer 2009 reference says £3K retail and £950 trade with just over 80K on the clock. So take something off for the mileage and the passage of time gives you?

I did a Glass' consumer valuation at the time and came up with the attached based on mileage and age. I don't have access to the site any more though.
The figure the insurance guy came up with was the retail value and he asked about extras.
He also said he was basing it on a Turismo model.

It might not be a bad idea, lower initial value, but then you can add more extras, worth calculating both ways

A Turismo model the base model, right? I've already called to mention that I'll be supplying evidence for a higher value so this will help.

£2.5k seems OK, it really depends on whether you can replace it with a 166 in as good condition for that money. If you have any extras or recent big service items e.g. belts it may be worth pushing for a bit more.
We had a Citroen C5 written off and insurance offered £10K, I pointed out it had a £500 paint option and they went up to £10.5K.

It had just (September) had £800 spent on suspension work. Everything was working and there's a stack of history since I bought it. I need to send all this back to them (again) anyway so I'll point this out as well as that Glass value I have and see what they say.

Would your V5 not state what model it was? They would enter the reg on the dvla database to see what model it is and then give you a valuation on it, to me it seems they have just chose the bottom range model to see if you will take it. The problem you have is that the insurance wont really care if you have spent £800 or £10000 on the car as they will class it as general maintance on it which could be to keep it road worth or modifying it, they will still give you the value of what they think it would sell for and usally they only would offer you a trade value on it. I know this doesnt sound very promising but i have a very good frien in the insurance trade and i have had lots of chats with him about this sort of stuff, the only thing he said would change the policy is if you could prove that these cars are classed as a classic car in which case they would take everything you have spent on it into consideration. The other advise i can give you is to check you house insurance out for the items that where inside the car, the motor company are more likely not to pay out for it unless it specifically says you have personal items insurance cover, most household insurance cover this in there small print and it maybe an idea to claim for these items from them????????
Anyway i do think that 2.5K is quiet a good value but you might not think that cause it was your baby, let us know how you get on and i hope it works out for you.

They were going off the Glass retail value - that's what he told me on the phone earlier, so if he's used a base model then it's going to be worth less - factory extras or not.
I have £200 of personal belongings cover and £1000 of in-car audio cover with them.

I think for that sort of money you could get yourself another one and quiet nice too. It may not be the same as yours as you would have put personal touches to it but i am sure through time you will get one back to how you had yours? You say you have 200 personal cover and 1000 audio cover, has that been taken into consideration and will they put that on top of the 2.5k or is that included?

I've already got another car! This insurance money will be paying off the loan. If they'd have paid out 3 months ago when it happened I wouldn't have needed the loan.
The belongings and audio cover are on top of that £2500 (less £150 excess) figure and are not subject to any excess I believe.

So are they going to pay out £1,000 for Audio ?
Fair play if they do as it's kind of built in.
