Electric folding mirrors on the 166

Whilst I think the folding mirrors facility on my 166 is a very classy option, I'm frustrated that there's no "automatic" mode (i.e. fold in when parked, fold out when engine started).

Unless of course, I am wrong... There is always that possibility. So, my question is whether or not the car can be told to auto-fold the mirrors as described above, or do you have to remember to press the button yourself every time?

Look 'ere Pomeo. My last car was a BMW 7-Series, and those bad boys come with EVERYTHING!!!

I'm taking my time to adjust to a "sporting" brand, after coming from a "premium" brand. I'll get there in the end...

... Now, about those folding mirrors. Can anyone get 'em to fold automatically?

The only way you could do it is wire a solenoid switch from mirrors to either ignition or gearbox that auto fold depending if ignition on or in "Park".

Good luck to you, you're on your own with that one......

I personally wouldn't want to put in another electrical gizmo that could go wrong, just my opinion. Most of my other cars I've owned have had nothing more than wind down windows! Before buying my 166 the best electrical gizmo I ever had on a car was an electric sliding sunroof - & that was on a Hyundai Pony!

Italians are crazy people.... but their cars are objects of desire

I think we share our wing mirrors with a certain Maserati 3200GT. Made by Carello.

I feel better now, knowing Maserati owners also have to remember to press the mirror fold button!

Hold on... Mirrors shared with a Maserati 3200GT?... Sounds expensive! Remind me not to spank one...

... Into a lampost. (Sorry Howell!)

There are quite a few components that are shared between the 166 and 3200GT.....and dont get me started on the link between the Alfa V6 and Ferrari....

Oh yes? Sounds interesting! I could have a whole new Alfa-related topic to bore people in the pub with if I had such knowledge. Do tell!

Have a read here for an introduction.

Giuseppe Busso - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This heritage is what makes the Alfa V6 come alive at 5000 rpm.
