Has anyone changed their 166 clutch themself?.

I ask this question as I am completely knackered just stripping down my daughter's Fiat Bravo 1.2 2001 to change the clutch. The clutch plate itself is probably fine as it is only around 60k but the release bearing had completely disintegrated and has broken some of the fins on the cover plate.

New one on its way

And then the re assembly. When weather permits.

I may have tackled this as and when Pomeo needs a new clutch but now I am not so sure. At least Lacey wont have this problem as she is a sportronic.

Pomeo

Ps (Purple I have taken some pics to assist anyone with a similar problem as this appears a common fault on the bravo)

or do 166 clutches serve well?

life is poor just now as the vectra appears to be peeing power steering fluid...at least that has a warranty.

thank you for the kind thought Pomeo

clutch is nice and smooth, which is more than can be said for the other Bravo 1.2 foible of a crunchy second gear. Although it is teaching my daughter about the art of mechanical sympathy

until it goes altogether....

Pomeo,
I asked the same question recently - no one seems to have replaced a clutch at all! Mine's done 154k now - not bad for an original clutch! What I want to know is:
1. Whether they give much warning when they go so I can look out for the symptoms and plan ahead.
2. How much work (cost) it is to replace.

I thought that Mike I just couldn't find it in the search.

Got it now as

Guess there will not be much info as there was not much on yours.

I just found DARREN156 has a problem

see

http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...-required.html (156 V6: Clutch Kit Help Required!)

and Ned says it comes out the bottom just like the bravo.Just on a BIGGER scale.

Pomeo.

Re: Has anyone changed their 166 clutch themself?.

I haven't done a 166 clutch but I did do a 164 3 litre. However I took the complete engine/ gearbox out as one. People did say that you could get the gearbox out on its own but with it being a "pull" clutch on the 166 this may be a complication. I did change a 155 T/S gearbox recently and this was a pig of a job. So on a 166 V6 it must be a nightmare.
Sorry to be a little negative but I don't want to lead you into something beyond sensible.

Re: Has anyone changed their 166 clutch themself?.

i had to have a clutch and flywheel on my old TS 166. didn't t do it myself, Days MK did (highly recomended)

lot of labour, but parts prices were very reasonable.
