Camber rear 166

I know I read about it somewhere here on AO but cant find it now. The rear RH tyre is really worn on the inside. You can see that the camber is way off. The car is lowered recently but i dont know if this got worse after this. How can i adjust the rear camber?

Re: Camber rear 166

Camber is not adjustable.

But poor inner wear is usually due to incorrect toe settings anyway, which is adjustable.
Or you have worn suspension bushes.

Re: Camber rear 166

Checked bushes when mounting suspension and they seemed ok. I know alfa says its not adjustable but i´m sure it is. Cant find the description though.

Ok its going to get the toe-in adjusted but it still looks like s**t with the angle of the wheel. Looks wrong.

Re: Camber rear 166

If you have one wheel at an obviously wrong camber angle, then I'd say something is very wrong with the suspension on that side (possibly the other side).

I don't know the 166 rear suspension, but it is very unusual to get any camber adjustment.

Re: Camber rear 166

There is a smidge of adjustment where the upper arm bolts in, but it is minimal. Try changing the "merc" bushes, that helps.

Is that where that link's bracket attaches to the crossmember?

Thats what i was looking for! Ok so nothing to hope for really then. I will try changing these bushes. Although I couldnt feel any play there. Can you feel if its worn?

Re: Camber rear 166

Nothing to see really, but only £12 each so you might as well change them while you are there, will def push the top of wheel out a smidge.

Re: Camber rear 166

Ok I guess I will do it. The part itself isnt expensive its the work involved that puts me off a bit. Did a rough measurement (upper tyre side and wheelarch) and it differed over 1 cm between left and right. Looks like it would be more though... Also looking at the right wheel from above you can actually see the toe-in. Looks to be too much compared to the left wheel.

Re: Camber rear 166

Unlike the olden days, before my time, when everything is/was adjustable ie KPI King pin inclination,Castor angle, camber angle toe in toe out toe on turns and thrust axis deciation......on all the modern vehicles almost all are preset by the manufacturer and any changes are due to wear n tear or impact shock ie sticking kerbs or rocks on the road.......Does height reduction in the springs alter the camber angle?...IIRC the shock aborber is slideable in its mounting and is a slotted hole rather than a round hole which can only be fitted in one postion.....I don't know the answer yet as I still have Laceys rear to do.I reckon sagged springs n shocks after 121k miles.

Usually increases the -ve camber yes.

With the rear design on the 166, the angle of the spring/damper has no influence on the camber.

Re: Camber rear 166

Would it be possible to use excentric bolts somewhere to adjust camber?

Re: Camber rear 166

Before you think about camber bolts, look at the attached picture. It looks as if the attachment support (5) for the upper rod has elliptical slots instead of simple holes. Would that be a possibility to adjust camber if you try and mount this support as far to the outside of the car as possible. In that way you're pushing the wheel into a more vertical position? Why would they have designed slots instead of holes and provide you with some margin to fiddle around, if this piece was only meant to be mounted in just 1 way only. If you need more room, I don't know how much bigger you cvan make thses slote -to create the difference you need- without weakening the construction & your safety.

Added comment: I think Drummerboy and I are talking about the same thing. So nothing new, sorry for that...except the picture then.

Re: Camber rear 166

I got a bit of adjustment on bolt 6 above, but having seen that pic i might try bolt 4 into bracket 5. Thanks Tjeerd
