MAF placement in 2.0 TS 166

Does anybody have a picture of where the MAF is located on a 2.0 TS 166?

V6 is dead easy..Not sure about the TS...But locate trhe air filter and follow tubing to the inlet throttle body or vice versa and you should locate the MAF.

Yep, I thought it should be as well... I haven't disassembled anything yet, I thought I could see it without doing that, but obviously not... Here are some pictures, can anybody point me in the right direction?

Re: MAF placement in 2.0 TS 166

First thing to do is remove the bottom right plastic panel. (sister panel to the panel you remove to fill the windscreen washer)

you see the big black box to the right of your engine. (resonator box)

you see how one end goes to you engine and the other end goes downward well the next bit of pipe that it speaks to is the housing for the maf.

What you need to do is get some pliers or mole grips and undo the metal strap that holds the box on.

Once the resonator box is off make sure nobody is looking then make some engine noises into the box and don't forget to shout "ECHO!"

You will then relise that you are in direct view of the MAF. just whip it out. put your one in and replace the box and enjoy!

You may observe some oil in the air intake. most of us have oil in the intake I would not losse any sleep over it.

Hope that helps

Stuart

Re: MAF placement in 2.0 TS 166

Thanks guys, shall have a look this afternoon I've read somewhere in here that unplugging it is a fairly easy way to check for errors, is this true? If so, how should I expect the car to behave when I unplug it? Or the lambda sensor for that matter... My car is lacking a lot of power in certain rev areas, which I've noticed people often attribute to the MAF or lambda sensor.

Re: MAF placement in 2.0 TS 166

To check the MAF, unplug it and the car shall go really bad. If there isn't any difference with or without it. Then there is your fault.

MAF problems often result with the engine loosing power in some revs.

You can also try to clean the MAF with a cleaner for electronic equipment. This helps sometimes, but not if the MAF is really bad.

Found the bugger, and the car goes a lot better with it unplugged, will test cleaning it, just have to get the right chemicals...

Its definetly the MAF then. personaly I would not go to the bother of cleaning it and just buy a new one as the proper MAF only cost £36 from these people give them a phone.

Well, I've already cleaned it, but no improvement... And I have ordered a new one. Maybe that'll sort out the jittery idle speed as well.

Re: MAF placement in 2.0 TS 166

BTW, the MAF for my car from the Citroen Peugeot Renaut spare car parts accessory was £47, and including shipping and customs the total was £101, which made it cheaper for me to buy it from Alfastumper together with some other stuff, as they have a rather nice shipping deal for shipments to Norway.

MAF's can cause dodgy idle as well so fingers crossed it helps....also worth cleaning the throttle body as that can cause crappy idle as well.

Re: MAF placement in 2.0 TS 166

Have already tried that. Helped a little bit, but not much... Now without MAF the idle is just crazy!! New MAF will be sent from Denmark monday, so hopefully not too long without. And it uses a hell of a lot more gas as well!!

Re: MAF placement in 2.0 TS 166

Did you get the new MAF and fit it?
I have just disconnected mine and the car feels like a new car when its unplugged! Think I will just go ahead and order one. Got diagnostic done on it a few months back and guy said lambda sensor was shot, but the fact I still never did anything about it, shows I had my doubts all along.
