1st problem on my 166

Ok so 5 months in and all is well until a few days ago. Car would cut out, engine management light came on and car would turn over but not catch. Anyway after being recovered twice I noticed a pattern.

Car runs up to normal running temp then cuts out, wait about 40 mins and she starts again but when returning to running temp cuts out again and so on and so on.

Turned out to be crankshaft sensor - total fix costs of £125. Sadly couldn't get to my Alfa specialist so had to risk a local (but known to work on classics as well as modern) garage. Overall ok.

Positives of the experience were:
[*]Got my GTV back on road (had been laid up at father in laws and for sale)[*]Realised how much I love my GTV[*]Realsied how much I love my 166 after being parted for a few days and having to drive the wife's Astra diesel

Negatives of my experience were:

[*]The useless warranty doesn't cover the part replaced. No surprise really as not worth paper written on
[*]Somebody came and bought my GTV a day after I got back behind the wheel.

During a weaker moment actually caught myself looking at a Audi A6
TDI. Only lasted for a minute or so

Anyway there we have it a crankshaft experience. I will get my warranty to pay out before it expires I swear

Look on the bright side. at least with with the high oil price you can now bag your self a nice 3L V6 GTV for not much money!

dont mention crankshaft experiences... my 96 (50,000 mile) Ford mustang has a 2 piece crankshaft - it snapped at the first main bearing cap!

never mind, my utterly sublime 166 soothes the pain of the blue collar blue oval...
