Well, actually it's a whopping £25 a year more at the moment, presuming your old TS was a '99 or '00. If it was newer than that, you'll be paying £0 more . In 2010, you might be paying £200 more...but it's not quite an extra thousand a year...yet

Re: Bye Bye Ti

Hi Stephen,

I hope you enjoy your TI as much as i do mine.
I have also been pondering over whether to change the suspension set up, and go with the Bilsteins.
Even though the TI set up is much more tigher and the handling is much improved over the pre-facelift cars, I still find the ride a bit fidgety at the back, and there is tendency to bottom out at times.
I look forward to reading your comments regarding the difference, when you sort out the Bilsteins.

Cheers....K

Stephen resides in Dublin - Different tax system that makes ours seem tame. As I understand it Stephen would have had to pay 2000Euros/year if he had not imported the car before end June 2008 but still has to pay a fair whack anyway. Upside is that their fuel is cheaper. He will no doubt confirm

A Brera diesel will be available at some point in the future - At least you know your way!

I stand corrected . No doubt the way we'll be going to (not the cheaper fuel...).

Re: Bye Bye Ti

Yes indeed, when I hear you girly men complaining about road tax I think, ha ha, girly men, you know nothing of what real road tax can be

Consider this also, girly men, just for the privelege of importing my own car for which I paid good money, I must hand over a further 30% (now 36%) of the open market sale price, in vehicle reg tax. So if I import a car that here costs, say, 15 k on a garage forecourt, I have to pay 5 k to the state.

Girly men I say ha ha ha

One advantage of 166 low car guide prices I suppose - What open market figure did you agree with the state? No wonder you did not ask for a receipt!

Glad you are enjoying

Re: Bye Bye Ti

Yes Dougie, a recieipt; I was on the road five minutes by the time I realised I had forgotten to ask for one.

I went down to the tax office on Monday but they did'nt have the 3.2 on the system, so they have to ask the oracle on the mountain Should take them a few days . I hope they check the Glass guide

Re: Bye Bye Ti

I got my car from the UK last year, and the VRO office priced it to twice as much as I bought for, and 30% higher than the nearest model for sale from a dealer on Carzone. (my car wasn't in the system either, somebody who never saw the car decided how much it worth. the "experts" - a.k.a effing' eejits - in the VRO office couldn't even copy over the type of the car from the V5 form, I almost registered an A L P H A in Ireland)
You can only complain once you paid up, and they say the VRT then also go up after the complaint. I paid up, didn't complain, and wrote "spend it on hospital bills" on the back of the cheque.

you are what you race

Why didn't you just get a receipt from Dougie with half the amount you actually paid for it? Now you have to hope they decide on a low price for you. You might end up paying even more... (see klapanciusz's reply)

Girly men? Rather that than pay loads of tax

Doesn't matter what you paid for it; you could have received it as a gift. They charge based on what they conjure up as the value, that's it.

Crazy concept! Just another good excuse to screw more taxes out of people, I suppose

Re: Bye Bye Ti

I thought that I was only the British goverment that did this and the rest of the world was a tax heven!

I'm sorry to here this. However I learnt a long time ago not to dewel on these unfair taxs to long otherwise you just end up bitter and twisted!

Anyway I'm sure it will be a small price to pay to be the owner of such a nice car.

Actually, you can do that. You import a car with a failed cambelt or gearbox etc. The taxable value is taken as the trade value of the car in that condition. Then you buy a recon unit.

However, we could never wish a failed timing belt or gearbox on the TI now could we.
