164 electirc rear seats...

My electric rear seats don't work..has anyone had the same problem?
What would be the best procedure to find the fault..I'm no auto electrician either, so nothing too complicated..please.

I have never heard of a 164 with the optional rear seats working! Even when new they apparently didn't - Good Luck!

Re: 164 electirc rear seats...

Hi,

I've got rear electric seats on my 164 and here is where you should start troubleshooting. The fuses are 20A (No. 18 in the Pic) it usually is a case of a blown fuse. Since the rear seats aren't adjusted that much, the gears and motors will get jammed a bit with dirt and will withdraw more current to move the seats, hence a blown fuse. You can find the fuse near the Battery at the back.

Now it may be that one seat is working and the other isn't but the fuse isn't blown. Chances are that you have a dead relay, now to get to it if my memory serves me right is behind the interior side carpeting in the boot on the right hand side (Siren Side).

Here is another pick to help you are looking For I55 and I54, if they aren't at the back they are probably underneath the plastic trim next to the Right Side seat.

Hope it helps !

Haha, my dads 164(322500miles last I checked) has a fully functioning rear electric seat, only way for me to fit in the back of it is to slide it forward all the way. When opening rear door they return to original position. Classy

I think they stuck once. A gentle tap on the motors solved it if memory serves me right...

Re: 164 electirc rear seats...

My first 164 had electric rear seats and they were forever packing up. As has been said, a gentle tap on the motor nearly always got them going again - In fact, I was going to use a couple of scrap fuel flap solenoids and rig up a switch that I could press so that they would automatically "tap" the motors for me, but I never got round to it and the car got scrapped in the end.
